Expectant mum Jennifer, 26, who recently secretly wed her partner Robbie Tickle, wishes she got hitched before she fell pregnant. “When I found out I was pregnant, I was over the moon about it, bit I was upset I wasn’t married,” Jen told Closer magazine.

Now happily married to her hubby, they expect their first baby together in the new year, with a water birth pencilled in.

Although, for traditionalists, having a baby out of wedlock isn’t the conventional route to planning a family, it is on the rise in the UK. The ex-Brookside star isn’t alone, as in the UK almost half (46%) of babies are now born outside of marriage.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there has been a 50% rise since 1991 in births to unmarried parents, with Scotland having more babies born outside of wedlock, than in it. Marriage rates are also at their lowest since 1862.
