Pregnant TV weather presenter hits back after being called 'gross' by viewers
Canadian meteorologist receives hate mail about her pregnant size and pregnancy wardrobe
When Canadian weather presenter Kristi Gordon announced her second pregnancy, she was expecting some criticism from viewers. She explained that during her first pregnancy, she had a lot of emails from viewers complaining about how she dressed her bump on-air.
But Kristi has revealed live on a Global News segment that despite her plea for kindness, she's received several anonymous letters from viewers blasting her pregnancy body. "Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you," Kristi read from one of the letters. "Your front end looks like the Hindenburg, and your rear end looks like a brick (fill in the blank) house. We now turn off Global."
"Well, you know what? Good," sports anchor Squire Barnes chipped in, explaining how he felt about losing that particular viewer.
And it wasn't just Kristi's body shape that some viewers deemed up for discussion. "Buy some decent clothes and have some respect for your unborn child. You're not the first pregnant woman. OMG," read another letter.
"Looser tops would look more professional," another viewer wrote.
Kristi admitted that after receiving the letters she checked herself in the mirror at home a couple of times "just to see how big I'm getting". She also asked her husband if he thought she was getting "really big."
"Despite me thinking these guys are crazy, or me having all these rational thoughts about it — it's amazing, when you say something mean about someone, it still affects them," she said. "Even if you're joking about something, it sinks in at some level."
