There have been some pretty, erm, inflammatory headlines today in some of the tabloids over a new alert issued by a regulatory body, to pharmacists, warning of the dangers of 3 over-the-counter nit treatments: Hedrin, Full Marks and Nyda.

Now, we know many people use these particular brands to clear those pesky nits away, so we thought it would be worth sharing the info - though not in quite the scary way The Sun did this morning...

Hmmm, OK then!

We're not quite sure why the alert has come today - but we think it does serve as a good reminder that if you have used one of these headlice treatments on your child, you should make sure you keep their heads away from naked flames and lit cigarettes to avoid scalp burns.

There has also been an incident of a woman who received serious burns after using one of the above lotions just from bending down to adjust her gas fire.

It's important to note that there have only been around 10 or so cases of this happening over the last 10 years - but the regulators obviously thought people could do with the reminder, and, we agree, that's no bad thing.

A spokesperson for Hedrin has said this: “Customer safety is of utmost importance. Hedrin four per cent lotion carries a prominent warning to keep hair away from sources of ignition, especially naked flames and burning cigarettes.

“The rest of the Hedrin range is not associated with these issues but we do always advise keeping hair away from naked flames.”
