Singer Ricky, 38, recently opened up to talkshow host Oprah Winfrey, inviting her into his home and letting the cameras follow him and his twin boys Matteo and Valentino around.

Ricky spoke openly with Oprah in his tell all interview about why he decided to confirm his homosexuality to the world, saying his children, who were born by surrogacy in 2008, are the most important thing in to him.

“When I was holding them in my arms I was like 'What? Am I going to teach them how to lie?' That was my blessing right there. Then, when I was holding my children, I said, 'Okay, it's time to tell the world'."

“'I don't want my family to be based on lies. I want to be transparent to them, I want them to be proud of their dad, of their family.”

Ricky decided on surrogacy but said the decision wasn’t easy. He first needed to understand and learn why she wanted to be a surrogate.

“I first interviewed her on phone and asked her why she does this.”

“She said, 'Because I'm very spiritual and I've never felt closer to God than when I give the gift of life to someone who can not do it alone,' I said, 'You're the one!'."

Ricky also told Oprah that he had battled with his sexuality for many years whilst in the spotlight.

“It was very difficult because for many years I was trying to pretend I was somebody else because of how I grew up in a conservative culture, very religious,” said Ricky.

Since having the twins, Ricky has found love and says his partner loves the twins and they love him.

“Love happens when you least expect it. I wasn't looking for it in any way, shape or form.”
