Sumo Contest to make babies cry
Japanese wrestlers see who can make a baby cry
Get your tissues out, as bizarre pictures have emerged showing a ‘crying sumo’ competition in Japan, where giant wrestlers compete to see who can make a baby cry first.
In the 400-year-old contest, wrestlers line up and hold a baby, attempting to make them cry by growling and making faces. Whichever wrestler makes their baby wail first wins, and if both babies kick off at the same time, the loudest crier wins.
The babies are held up high during the competition, so their tears are closer to heaven, while their parents watch from the sidelines and pray for the good health of their bawling baby.
It’s believed evil spirits are driven away during the festival, which takes place across Japan.
