The project aims to “humanise” the increasingly medical process of giving birth by sharing information to empower women.

“When Mayra told me her idea about the Birth Around the World project I thought it was a beautiful idea and knew that it would be really cool if she could share a little bit of this journey on my blog,” Gisele wrote on her website. “I had the opportunity to experience the natural process of birth and it was one of the most life changing experiences for me and very very special.”

The supermodel, who has a 2-year-old son, Benjamin, has been outspoken in her views about natural birth and has also once claimed breastfeeding should be made law.

“I believe it’s a woman’s right to make the decision about how she’s going to give birth to her child,” Gisele, 30, said. “And it’s also her right to have access to the information she needs so she can make that decision from a place of awareness, and not a place of fear.”
