Suranne Jones surprised everyone at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night – by showing up with a baby bump. One she's been keeping under wraps for a good while, by the look of things!

The Doctor Foster actress confirmed. on the red carpet, that she's expecting her first child with husband Laurence Akers. No news on the due date yet but it can't be that many months off.

Wearing a gorgeous black one-shoulder gown, the mum-to-be put a hand under her bump in the classic this-definitely-isn't-just-post-Christmas-bloat pregnancy pose.

"Yeah I'm pregnant!" she gushed to stunned fans and reporters at the event, which was held in London's O2 Arena.

The actress had us all in suspenders last year while we waited to see how her character Gemma would get her revenge on cheating husband Simon in the BBC One drama Doctor Foster.

The show won the award for Best Drama – and then pregnant Suranne had to get up on the stage again to pick up her own award for Best Drama Performance. She beat Broadchurch's David Tennant and Poldark's Aidan Turner to that one – so no mean feat!

Collecting her award, Suranne told the audience she'd "skipped an antenatal class" to attend the bash.

"This is amazing," she gushed. "We start filming Doctor Foster series 2 in September, so you can look forward to that."

The 37-year-old met her husband Laurence, the editor of Nikon Pro Magazine last year, and they wed just 6 months later in a private ceremony in London.

Suranne's show-stopping dress cost £189 and is available from Asos. She added a pop of colour to her monochrome outfit with bright green drop earrings and wore her hair in a stylish, low chignon bun.

Congratulations both!
