The baby names that are getting BIG in Scotland
Names like Luna, Harley and Struan are becoming popular among Scottish parents, says the Office for National Statistics...
We really, really dig some of the names from this list of classic, Gaelic-inspired Scottish baby names.
But what are the parents of Scotland calling their kids right now?
Well, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) says that names like Luna and Harley are rising through the ranks – making the top 100 girls’ names in the most recent, 2017 list.
Other girl names rising in popularity, jumping up the top 100 list, include:
- Aurora
- Bella
- Callie
- Ninna
- Penelope
- Sienna
As for boys names? Hmm, let's see... we're getting some American vibes from the likes of Cooper, Hunter and Blake.
But Evan, Freddie, Jax, Arlo and Sonny – old classics and updated versions of them - are also climbing up the top 100 for boys.
We are seeing little hints of classic Scots names in the ONS’s stats, though. We saw that one little girl was named Bella-Caledonia, while another little boy was named Aberdeen.
One place-name-turned-baby-name gaining favour with Scottish parents is Struan, as a boys' name.
We reckon Struan comes from the eponymous villages on the Isle of Skye and in Perthshire.
They're all pretty lovely, right?
