It takes a lot to make us bawl like babies at our desks.

But this video of a young boy asking his stepdad to adopt him during his birthday party really made us bubble ???

10-year-old Kalani used the festivities as the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to his mum’s husband, Brandon Williamson, who’d been a dad to him since he was 3 years old.

Reading nervously from a sheet of paper, Kalani begins a pre-prepared speech about how much Brandon meant to him...

“I’ve learned so much from you," he tells Brandon. "I asked mom the difference between a stepdad and a real dad, because I don’t get it sometimes.

"You have been here for everything: all my school programs and parent conferences, all my sports, every time I’m sick, when I act up - you take me everywhere.”

Brandon’s eyes are getting watery now, and here in the office, there’s a faint chorus of ‘awwww’ surrounding our computer.

Until Kalani triggers a stream of waterworks...

“Do you love me? Do you love mom? Can you live without us?” he asks, as Brandon shakes his head no.

“So let’s stop playing and make it official. Brandon Craig Williamson, will you do me the biggest favour in the world?

"Will you adopt me?”

An emotional Brandon collapses into his hands, bursts into tears, before finishing opening his gift - a box containing the adoption papers needed to officially make Kalani his son.

Is it really any surprise that this heart-wrenching display of family and true love has reached an amazing 3.3M views on Facebook?

"Crazy how me just loving my son has touched so many people…” Brandon wrote on Instagram.

Kalani’s mum Porsche later told The Huffington Post: “I knew this was going to break [Brandon] down. Like the time my son asked if he could call him dad when he was four.

"He has so much love for Brandon and he was so nervous once the day was here. He kept going over it the day before.”

She revealed Kalani had first decided he wanted to be legally adopted when Porsche married Brandon, and took his surname - because he wanted to share it, too.

He wanted to wait until Father’s Day to ask Brandon the big question, but once the adoption papers arrived, he just couldn’t wait any longer ❤️

Brandon also opened up about how he was feeling during Kalani’s speech.

“I was thinking I earned this,” he revealed to the Huff Post. “Most parents automatically get their child’s love.

"I had to grind for this, I had to show him I’m not going anywhere.

"So since I have had to work hard for his love I don’t take it for granted. So it was a honour and one of the greatest moments of my life.”

Congrats to the loving family on their happy news ?
