Tony’s Chocolonely Easter eggs urgently recalled over metal fragment fears
Two popular Easter eggs pulled from shelves — here’s what parents need to know

Check your cupboards: some Tony’s Chocolonely Easter eggs have been recalled due to metal contamination.
Tony’s Chocolonely has issued an urgent recall for two of its large hollow Easter eggs over safety concerns. The brand, known for its ethical stance on chocolate production, says some products may contain fragments of metal and should not be consumed.
Which eggs are affected?
The recall affects specific batches of the following Tony’s Chocolonely Easter eggs, sold in a 242g pack size:
- Hollow Milk Chocolate Egg
- Hollow Milk Caramel Sea Salt Egg
These products have been sold in major UK supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons. Affected eggs can be identified by checking the lot codes found under the best-before date of June 2025 on the side of the packaging.
What should you do if you’ve bought one?
“If you have purchased the above products with the affected lot codes, please do not consume and instead return the product to the store of purchase for a refund,” said Tony’s Chocolonely in a statement.
Retailers, including Asda, have echoed the message. “Please bring them back to your nearest store for a full refund. No receipt is needed,” a spokesperson confirmed. Customers can also contact Asda Customer Relations at 0800 952 0101 for more support.
Shoppers will also find point-of-sale notices in affected stores explaining the recall and next steps, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
What’s caused the issue?
The company confirmed it has identified the source of the contamination and resolved the issue. However, as a precaution, they are actively working with supermarkets and the FSA to remove affected products from sale and distribution.
Is the rest of the range safe?
Yes. Tony’s Chocolonely has reassured customers that all other Easter products, including its range of small eggs and chocolate bars, are safe to eat.
However, this is not the first warning from the brand in recent days. Just 24 hours earlier, Tony’s also recalled two chocolate bars — the 180g Dark Almond Sea Salt bar and the 180g Everything Bar — due to the potential presence of small stones.
Are other brands affected?
Yes, this latest recall comes alongside a separate warning from Sainsbury’s, which has recalled its Taste the Difference Belgian Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Pretzel product, also due to fears of metal fragment contamination.
Where to find more information
Customers are advised to visit the Tony’s Chocolonely website or the Food Standards Agency website for the latest updates and full details on the batch codes affected.
If you’ve already tucked into your eggs and are concerned, it’s best to contact the store where you purchased them or the brand directly. And for any leftover unopened eggs, returning them to your local store is the safest option — no receipt needed.
Parents, check those baskets — because when it comes to chocolate and kids, safety always comes first.
