A new survey by Booktrade asked 2,500 Brits to name their favourite nursery rhyme, and unsurprisingly, the top ten features some real classics.

Topping the bill is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, with Incey Wincey Spider and Round and Round the Garden a close second and third respectively.

Despite bursting with sing-along classics, the poll also revealed we’re a nation falling out of love with rhymes. Only 36% of parents said they regularly use nursery rhymes with their children, while almost a quarter admitted to never having sung a nursery rhyme to their little ones at all.

The survey was commissioned to celebrate National Bookstart day on Friday. Sound good? Check out our pick of the best 30 books for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
