Earlier this month, the UK’s first ever conference for parent bloggers was held in London. Called CyberMummy, it was a celebration of blogging, learning and camaraderie. From the nitty-gritty of running a blog, to networking with like-minded bloggers, CyberMummy was the place to be. Over 200 bloggers attended, and the conference sold out before the big day.

Despite reading each other’s blogs and, in some cases, knowing more about each other than close, personal friends, many bloggers had not had the opportunity to meet in real life. CyberMummy was where internet friendships and real life merged. There was an immense feeling of support and community, and amongst the free products and blogging knowledge being bandied about, real friendships were forged and strengthened.

CyberMummy was an event for bloggers by bloggers. The three mummy blogger names responsible for making it happen were Susanna Scott, founder of the social networking group British Mummy Bloggers, Sian To, owner of As Clear As PR and Jennifer Howze, a long time journalist who writes for The Times. The day featured an impressive list of speakers, including writer and journalist India Knight and representatives from Google.

The sessions covered everything from stats and technical data, to making money from your blog and turning your blog into a book. There were networking opportunities, sponsors, contests, giveaways and a variety of tables at lunchtime addressing Vlogging (that’s video blogging), Anonymity and Work/Life Balance. Technology was in full force with laptops, iPads and smartphones working furiously for us to keep friends and followers informed as the event unfolded.

The closing session of the day was inspirational and emotional, with 14 mummy bloggers sharing posts that had appeared on their blogs in the last year. There was laughter, tears and awe over what had been produced on UK mummy blogs. It was an exceptional way to end the first blogging conference of its kind in the UK. I think everyone of us bloggers came away feeling fulfilled, renewed, inspired and energised to continue blogging.

Parent blogger numbers are growing by the day in the UK, and PRs and companies are really starting to take notice. Who knows how far we’ll have come when CyberMummy 2011 arrives!
