Victoria Beckham has given birth to a baby girl, weighing 7lbs 10oz today. She was an early morning baby, born at 7.55am in Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

As predicted, she gave birth today by caesarean section. It’s Victoria’s fourth caesarean. Multiple caesareans can increase the risk of health problems during birth, such as haemorrhaging and placental issues. However, both mum and daughter are said to be doing well, and no doubt Victoria had lots of medical help on standby at the LA hospital.

There's no hint of a name yet for the little girl, although brother Romeo had an 'interesting' name idea. Some rumours are suggesting they may choose the name Angel, on the basis of their baby being born in Los Angeles (otherwise known as the City of Angels).

Bookmakers William Hill has been offering 3/1 on Liberty, 10/1 on Luna and 14/1 on Lola being baby Beckham's name. More outlandish suggestions were Jordan at 100/1 and Waynetta at 250/1!

However, a close friend said the couple were going to spend time getting to know their daughter before choosing her name, reported the Daily Mail.

David’s PR agent, Simon Oliviera, tweeted the news at around 6.30pm today, “David & Victoria Beckham are delighted to announce the birth of their daughter.” He then added, “Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are excited to welcome their new baby sister to the family.”

David's sister Joanne also went on Twitter to pass on her best wishes, tweeting “Big congrats to my sister in law @victoriabeckham and my big bro on the birth of my beautiful niece :) can't wait 2 see u all xx”

David has admitted he’s been very excited (and tearful) about this new baby and all the pink and purple now taking over in their house. He told TV cameras in the States last week that he was enjoying getting used to the new girly colour scheme at home.

He also couldn’t resist taking a snapshot of a very pregnant Posh (and post it on his Twitter page) earlier last week.

Hilariously, ITN then claimed Victoria was doing a reverse plank (just as pregnant Jenni Falconer did this week live on This Morning). But in Victoria’s case, it just looked like she was lying down in the sunshine, grabbing a chance for a little nap before the new baby arrived!
