Why your phone could soon tell if you're pregnant
Scientists are developing add-on devices that could test for pregnancy
Phones aren't just for texting or making calls anymore. You can use them for taking pictures, chatting on Facebook and even finding that one nursery rhyme on YouTube that will help your little one settle down. But scientists say you could soon use your smartphone for something much more personal… testing for pregnancy!
Scientists are developing small add-on devices that turn a smartphone's existing optical components into biosensing technology – that can test for pregnancy. The fiber optic sensor can monitor different body fluids including blood, urine, saliva and sweat to detect pregnancy. The findings would then run through an app to provide real-time results. So in theory, it could give you a positive or negative pregnancy test result instantly, say researchers at the University of Hanover in Germany.
But would you want to pee on your smartphone? Or would you rather use a standard pregnancy test? Let us know in the comments below.
