Yoto is recalling some of its Yoto Mini batteries and 2nd Gen Player plug adapters due to a risk of battery overheating when charging.

The company had previously addressed the Yoto Mini battery issue in April 2024 by distributing smart cables and implementing software updates. However, a free Battery Replacement Kit is now being offered to fully resolve the problem and align older devices with the enhanced safety of the 2024 Yoto Mini edition.

While the risk is considered low, the company stresses that replacing the battery is crucial to ensure the device remains safe for use.

How to check if your Yoto Mini is affected

Look for a serial number starting between 1FE–8FE on the base of your Yoto Mini. Devices sold from 2021 to 2023 are eligible for the battery replacement programme.

How to order a free replacement battery kit

You can request the kit via Yoto’s website, but delivery won’t start until 2025 when stock is available. Once shipped, you'll receive instructions for safe battery replacement.

For safe disposal, lithium-ion batteries must not be thrown in household waste. Yoto advises customers to use local waste disposal sites that accept lithium-ion batteries. Check the UK Government website for information on proper disposal.

UK plug adaptor recall for Yoto Player 2nd Generation

A separate issue affects certain Yoto Player 2nd Generation plug adaptors, supplied in the UK and Ireland between September 2021 and May 2023. A rare defect can cause the adaptor to break when removed from the socket, potentially exposing live pins.

Yoto reports three incidents but has not recorded any injuries. This issue only applies to a specific subset of chargers with interchangeable UK and EU adaptor pins.

How do I know if my 2nd generation charger is affected?

If you own a Yoto Player 2nd Generation manufactured and sold between 2021 and 2023, follow these steps to check if your charger is affected:

  • Interchangeable Type G pin: Check if your charger uses a three-pronged UK Type G pin that can be removed and replaced.
  • Yoto logo: Look for the Yoto logo on the front of the charger.
  • Mass Power icon: Inspect the rating plate on the charger for the Mass Power icon and logo.

You can compare your charger to the images below. The affected product is circled in red.
