Let's face it, when it comes to having a baby, what we all hope for most is to have one that's healthy, right?

Though a recent survey revealed that 80% of women also had a secret preference for a boy or a girl.

Why secret? Perhaps because people might think they were being 'picky' by wanting a particular sex, when the baby's wellbeing obviously comes first.

We decided to ask our own mums on Facebook whether they'd had a secret wish for one or the other - and had loads of responses.

"Of course firstly all I wanted was a healthy baby, but I'd be lying if I said I never had a preference," Leah B tells us.

"With #1 I didn't mind but leaned towards girl (was a boy), with #2 I really wanted a girl but a boy made more sense as there was only a 16-month gap (was another boy).

"With #3 I was desperate for a girl as I was feeling pretty outnumbered and it would be my last.

"Fortunately I got my little girl. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference and nobody should be shamed or slated for it."

Donna H agrees she had a preference - but not about the secrecy bit. "There was no secret about it," she says. "I absolutely had a preference for girls and had two girls!"

And Lucy M has a similar take: "I'd have been delighted no matter what - but I always said if you bought babies from supermarkets I'd always go for the girl aisle and now I've got 3."

"I had 2 girls first, was a *tiny* bit disappointed at first to be having a 2nd girl," reveals Sophie M. "But it soon passed after the initial 20-week scan.

"3rd baby I got a boy and now my house is just full of healthy little lunatics!"

All that said, there were a few of our mums who say they genuinely didn't mind at all if they were having a boy or a girl.

"Never had a preference with any of my pregnancies and all my children are boys," says Jody C.

And Rhiann C gets that, too: "I'm pregnant with my second and I don't know what I'm having and can honestly say I don't mind so long as it's healthy."

What do you think?

Did you have a secret desire for either a boy or a girl? Or maybe you had a preference and didn't keep it secret - or had no preference at all?
