Top tips for choosing the right space baby name

Your baby's name is with her or him for life so finding the perfect one can feel like a monumental task. To help you narrow down your choices and make things a little easier, follow these top name-picking tips:
  • Look at name meanings. Considering the meaning of the name you are drawn to can help you work out whether it's the right one for you and your baby. Do you want a pretty, ethreal name for your child, or something powerful and bold? Many space names are connected to nature and mythology so consider what you find appealing and meaningful.
  • Write it down and say it aloud. Take time to write out your favourite names and say them out loud with your surname and, if you've chosen one, any middle names. How does it sound? Write out the initials and make sure they don't unintentionally make a word you wouldn't want your child to have as a nickname. Will your child and others find the name easy to spell? If not, does it matter to you that you and your child will have to keep correcting others' misspellings? Is the name easy to pronounce? Can the space name be shortened? Are there any nicknames or shortened forms of the name you've chosen?
  • Think about options from other countries. Space-themed baby names are inspired by languages and populations all over the world – and beyond! But you may want to think about picking a name from a country you or your partner has a strong connection to as choosing a name from that part of the world is a great way of honouring the connection. Equally, you may want to choose a name from a country you've enjoyed visiting or a star or planet you've gazed up at.
