Though a pushchair organiser is handy for quick access when you're on the move, a changing bag stores a lot more stuff you and your baby may need. Before you buy a separate changing bag, remember that some travel system bundles come complete with a matching changing bag that specifically fits the handles or the shopping basket of the brand you've chosen.

Dimensions: 40 x 30 x 10cm | Awards: Bronze — Changing bag, MadeForMums Awards 2024
Pros:
- Stylish, neutral design

- Pale fabric might show scuffs and marks easily
If you’re looking for a neutral, stylish design of changing bag that screams quiet luxury, then the My Babiie Billie Faiers Oatmeal Herringbone Deluxe Changing Bag is a practical and attractive option at a competitive price.
The bag is made from an oatmeal herringbone fabric with beige straps and trim, making it suitable for all parents to use. "The changing bag looks very luxurious and fashionable for the price" was the verdict of our parent tester Anna, mum to a 7-month-old.
As well as looking good it’s full of practical components, too - a padded changing mat is included, as well as an insulated bottle holder. There are two handy pockets on the front, as well as a secure internal pocket, and adjustable and padded shoulder straps to add comfort when you’re carrying it around full of all the things your need for your baby.

2. Lässig Rolltop Backpack, £119.95
– Best changing bag for range of accessories
Dimensions: 46 x 30 x 14.5cm
Pros:
- Chic and stylish
- Roomy enough for day trips
- Plenty of accessories
- Made using sustainable products
Cons:
- On the large side
Lässig makes a wide range of high quality, sustainable, stylish baby accessories and this bag looks like one of the trendier backpacks from Scandi brands. It's made from 100% recycled polyester and comes in a range of 5 colours. It also has a good quality integrated magnet fastening, a full-length zipper from top to bottom, a clever rolltop design to make it larger and comes with a wider range of accessories than many changing bags; a changing mat, insulated bottle holder, jar holder, a key finder and stroller clips for starters.
Inside, there’s plenty of space for all of baby’s bits and pieces and everything is neatly stored in the internal pockets. Sarah added: "I like to take travel sizes of hand sanitiser and cream and there were smaller pockets for me to keep these in. There's a front wet pouch for easy access of essentials and a side pocket for a water bottle, although this is quite narrow."
This bag is particularly good when you're out and about as it has the choice to carry it as a rucksack or to attach it to the pram handles using the straps that are included. "I had concerns that this would tip the pram up, however, it didn't and it is a handy tool if you don't want to carry the bag on your shoulders or if you don't have space under the pram," says Sarah. "However, I found it comfy to wear on my shoulders."
If buying sustainable products is important for you, you'll love the eco crendentials of the bag. It's made using
Waste2Wear fabrics (created out of post-consumer recycled plastic bottles) and is PETA – Approved Vegan (no animal components).
One of the main highlights for me is the fact that the zip opens all the way down the side of the bag for easy access. This meant that I could easily see all the way to the bottom. Another highlight of the bag is the sustainable materials used,

There is also a key clip, phone pocket, laptop pocket, and pen holder as well as an insulated bottle holder, central compartment and two front pockets.
When you’re out and about with the pram, attaching the bag using the universal stroller straps you means you can keep your hands free and ready.
It looks great, too. The bag is made from black PU leather, which is strong and vegan friendly. There are chunky metal zips with double pullers for easy access, and adjustable shoulder straps. Parent tester Zoe, who used the bag while out and about with her 5 month old, was impressed by the bag's "reasonable" price tag and smart looks, adding: "The chunky metal zips make opening and closing really easy even with one hand."
I like the design of the attachable pram straps and where they are placed on the bag. The bag looks good. The bag feels of good quality and does look stylish from the outside.

Pros:
- Highly organised and functional

As with all Pacapod’s bags, you can customise and extend this bag according to your baby’s age and stage with different pods – there’s a changing, feeding, toddler and travel pod, plus a ‘freedom’ pod which holds mum’s precious items like phone, keys and sunglasses. Add a changing mat, pram clips and a bottle wrap to complete your bag. When your baby has reached the age where you no longer need the pods, you can simply remove them and use the bag as a generous backpack. 8. Gigil Luxe 2.0 Changing Backpack, £110
– Best changing bag for stylish and neutral design

Pros:
- Stylish
- Can be used as normal bag after nappy stage
- Vegan friendly
Cons:
- Pale leather may shows marks easily
- Pricey
This deceptively spacious, backpack-style changing bag is a brilliant option if you don't want to buy a bag just for the nappy stage as it's stylish enough to use as a normal bag once your child is potty trained. "I love that it is stylish and doesn’t look like a nappy bag," says our parent tester Bonnie.
This bag has substance as well as style. It is easy to use with multiple pockets and compartments to store all your baby bits and keep things organised. It's great quality as well with lovely chunky zips, a magnetic front flap and comfortable padded straps.
It is perfectly sized – not too big and cumbersome, and not so small that it's bulging at the seams with nappies and wipes. The buttery-soft faux leather looks expensive and comparable to the real deal, and the chunky YKK zips and magnetic closures add to the high quality.

They are accessed through a front opening, which makes it quick and easy to get to and the lining is in a light lime colour, making it easy to see what’s inside.
There’s an included padded changing mat and the bag comes with stroller straps too. It will hold all you need for your baby and you can even pack a laptop with ease.
The back straps are padded but only lightly, so it’s possibly not as comfortable as some. It has loads of great compartments, which is really handy for separating items.

What to look for when choosing a changing bag
How much room do you need? – Babies need a surprising amount of stuff for a trip out of the house – nappies, cream and wipes are the basics but you should also pack feeding equipment, a change of clothes, toys, muslins and anything you might need for the weather, such as sun cream for summer and warm items for winter. For a day trip, a compact bag is usually fine but for weekends away, you might also want to invest in a larger bag or case. If you’re just popping out quickly, you can even buy a changing purse that comprises a small fold-up mat with space for a few wipes and a couple of nappies.
How do you want to carry it? – Changing bags come in several styles, so choose what you would usually use as your day-to-day bag. A backpack keeps your hands free and is great if you’re baby wearing; a messenger or shoulder bag can be worn on one side or across your body and a handbag can be held in your hand or over your arm. Many bags also include clips to attach the bag to your stroller while you’re on the move.
Storage compartments? – To keep everything organised and help you find something in a hurry, most bags have both internal and external pockets. Areas dedicated to a changing mat, nappies and wipes are essential and hidden pockets for your keys and purse are helpful. Some bags even feature handy extras such as insulated pouches to keep drinks warm or cool and anti-bacterial linings.
Does it include a changing mat? – Look for a bag that has its own matching changing mat. Not only will it have a dedicated space that holds it perfectly but it saves having to buy an extra item.
Practical or designer? – There’s a huge range of bags available, from inexpensive bags just for use with your baby, to stylish designer bags made from premium materials that transform into a handbag when your baby has grown. Though a luxe bag might be more expensive, it has a longer lifespan and might be a good investment in the long run.
How did we choose our 10 of the Best?
Our Best lists are compiled by qualified and experienced parenting journalists. They rely on a number of sources, including our independent reviews, testing undertaken during the MadeForMums Awards, and feedback from our home testing panel and Top Testers Club. Each year thousands of products are put through their paces by hundreds of parents across the country on behalf of MadeForMums, to ensure we’re bringing you honest and true reviews and recommendations.
When choosing these changing bags, we considered size, space, storage options, how you can carry it, practicality, appearance and branding, and whether a changing mat is included.
Our list is not an ordered ranking from 1-10, instead it is a carefully selected group of tried-and-tested products, each of which we believe is best for a different situation or requirement. We don’t just tell you what is best, we help you discover what is best for your family.
