The Christmas Eve Tree
The Christmas Eve Tree (Walker Books) by Delia Huddy and Emily Sutton should definitely come with a mascara warning! The story follows one tiny tree uprooted from its forest home to be sold in the big city.
But unfortunately no one wants such a small a scrappy tree… that is until homeless boy asks if he may have it to brighten his makeshift shelter.
Gulp! This is a truly lovely story with gorgeous illustrations that are sure to add a touch of true Christmas spirit.

4. Another Night Before Christmas
You can’t talk about Christmas Eve books without mentioning Clement C Moore’s timeless ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
There are so many versions on the market you will have no trouble finding one to suit your child whatever their age.
For really little ones try the Little Tiger Press account with illustrations by Mark Marshall (£5.99), while for older children Carol Anne Duffy’s interpretation (Another Night Before Christmas, published by Picador, £5.99) with paper cut artwork by Rob Ryan is a truly beautiful buy that you will return to year after year.
