5 of the best pregnancy apps
MFM's pick of the best apps for pregnancy - from symptom checking to recording important memories
I’m Expecting (Free)
A handy tool to help you through pregnancy, this app gives you tips, allows you to upload bump pics and matches your symptoms to a timeline so you have an idea of what to expect. You can sync it up to your PC and print out important charts that you might want to keep. A good all-rounder - though some users have reported problems with the app not taking into account if you’re overdue, announcing ‘you’re done’ when you’re still pregnant! We're sure this bug will be ironed out soon though.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1.3 or later. Requires Android: 2.1 and up.
m Pregnancy (£1.99)
If you can’t get your partner to pick up a pregnancy book, this could be just the thing. Aimed at men, the funky app compares the growth of your baby to pictures of beer bottle caps and footballs. It helps men out with FAQs like what you should and shouldn’t be eating and guides them through preparing for the birth. A fun take on the traditional pregnancy app, if a little on the pricey side.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later. Currently not available on Android Market.
ShopShop (Free)
This simple shopping list is easy to use and enables you to keep track of all the things you need to buy in preparation for your new arrival. Once you’ve bought it, you can swipe it off the list. It even remembers what you’ve listed before so you get hints if you start a new list. Additional lists can be accessed by swiping over the current one showing – great if you want to separate out your items into food, baby, essentials etc.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1 or later. Currently not available on Android Market.
50,000 Baby Names (Free)
Choosing a baby name can be daunting, so this free app is great for giving your list a kickstart. Although many of the names aren’t surprising, the list of alternative versions of well-known names is great if you’re keen for something new. There have been some reports of it being slow to load, but if we had one criticism it would be that the definitions of the names are a little lacking in detail.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1 or later. Requires Android: 1.6 and up.
Instagram (Free)
You love taking pictures of your bump, right? Well, now you can add funky effects to them, straight from your device. This easy-to-use app allows you to add old-fashioned effects, black and white or enhanced colours – all at the touch of a button. Super-simple to share through your twitter account, meaning you can show your incredible images to all of your friends.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1.2 or later. Requires Android:1.6 and up.
