Pros

  • Easy to set up, stops an active baby or toddler from getting tangled in cot bars, stops hard bumps, allows airflow

Cons

  • Not as decorative as other cot bumpers

The Airwrap is a breathable cot bumper that allows good airflow, but helps reassure you that your baby won’t be putting their limbs between the bars.

It’s easy to get carried away when decorating your baby’s cot and nursery. The bumper with those pretty ribbons may look delightful now, but have you thought about what happens when your baby starts to move? Or considered how useful that thick padding will be for a toddler intent on climbing out of their cot in the middle of the night?

It may lack the decorative bells and whistles of traditional cot bumpers, but the Airwrap could be the answer to at least some of your sleep time woes. It’s made from plain white padded, breathable mesh fabric, which both allows maximum airflow and protects baby from getting tangled in cot bars.

The Airwrap is height-adjustable, fits most cots and moves easily with drop-side rails. It’s suitable from birth to 2 years.

Now, just a word on cot bumpers in general. According to the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths( FSID), “In the past, there were concerns that bumpers might make babies too hot, increasing the risk of cot death. However, research has shown that they have neither good nor bad effects. Take it out when your baby can get up on her hands and knees so she can’t climb out. Make sure there are no trailing strings or ties.”

What we love

This is the ultimate in fuss-free design and takes about 2 minutes to set up thanks to the nifty Velcro fastenings. The Airwrap can be adjusted to fit any cot and comes in both four-sided and two-sided versions (two-sided for cots with two solid ends).

The Airwrap is machine washable and dries quickly.

Best of all, the Airwrap is climb-proof - the fabric just squashes down the minute a little foot tries to get any leverage.

My daughter Eve had developed quite a thing for sleeping with her legs or arms threaded through the cot bars, which meant disturbed naps and night times for everyone until we installed the Airwrap. Now she snuggles up to it like it’s a favourite toy!

What to watch out for

The Airwrap’s Velcro fastenings can prove to be quite entertaining for a curious toddler and you may find that they spend a fair amount of time trying to pull it apart instead of napping! You can only hope that they’ll tire of it quickly and move on to something else. Of course, for a young baby, this won’t be an issue.

Design-conscious mums and dads may find the Airwrap’s plain, simple, functional look a little boring (but there is lots of other pretty stuff to spend your money on!)

Who is the Airwrap cot bumper best for?

MadeForMums verdict

The Airwrap offers great peace of mind and is easy to use. It’s ideal for parents who find themselves spending a lot of time untangling their little one’s limbs from cot bars or those who want to avoid bumps, but not worry about the airflow.
