The Smart was a finalist in the 2011/2012 Practical Parenting and Pregnancy Awards for Car Seat Group 0/0+, and it’s easy to see why. A body support, some comfy shoulder pads, a removable sun canopy and a washable cover are all included in the bargain price, and it’s fitted with your car’s 3-point rear seatbelt.
What we love
Of course, the price is pretty lovable. Car seat prices for Group 0+ really vary, but it would be hard to find something much lower than the £39.99 price tag on the Baby Weavers Smart.
This isn’t a case of ‘’you get what you pay for’ though. The Baby Weavers Smart Car Seat definitely doesn’t feel like there’s any compromise on safety or comfort. The seat’s padded all round, with an extra padded body support insert.
In many ways, it’s ideal for a new mum who’s finding her feet and doesn’t want anything too complicated. You use your rear seatbelt to fix it safely into position, and the safety harness is easy to use and adjust. There doesn’t look like any chance of fiddly little fingers being able to tamper with it as your baby gets older.
The Smart is super lightweight (3kg), too, which is a bonus if you’re feeling achy in those early days of motherhood or recovering from a c-section. And yes, it fits in a small car!
You’d expect no frills at this price, but the Smart comes in an array of bright colours and has a modern spotty pattern on the wings. It also has great design features, such as the way in which the carry handle is adjusted by pressing a couple of easy buttons underneath.
It has the all-important snooze factor, too – at least it did when I tested it on my friend’s 2-week-old baby, who was asleep within 10 minutes of driving off.
What to watch out for
Some mums prefer an all-singing, all-dancing travel system. If that’s the case, the Smart isn’t for you as there are no compatible buggies available.
Although there’s a comfy body hugger, it doesn’t come with a separate head hugger, so you might not feel right putting a newborn with a wobbly head in it.
Who is the Baby Weavers Smart Car Seat suitable for?
Parents on a small budget after an easy, lightweight car seat in a good range of colours.
If you’re happy to buy a car seat that’s not part of a travel system, the Baby Weavers Smart is definitely worth a try. It’s very affordable, easy to use and light to carry, though it would be good if a head hugger were available for the youngest of newborns.
