When three huge boxes arrived, I knew this was no ordinary bath. I enlisted the help of my friend Kat and her baby Andreas, 10 weeks, to test out the system with me. The complete bathing and changing set (available in mint green or dusky pink) is made up of the bath (£39.90), support (£55), changer (£50), multi-pouch (£25) and shower net (£15). All the elements are sold separately, so you can either buy the whole thing or just the bits you need.
In terms of size, the Support Camélé'o is 63cm x 75cm x 92cm, the Changing Table Camélé'o is 53cm x 80cm x 15cm and the Bath Camélé'o is 55cm x 83cm x 30cm.
What we love
One of the best features is the design of the bath. It’s gently rounded and supportive offering maximum comfort for your baby, with a soft anti-slip lining, so you can feel confident that your baby is secure. It has large edges making it easily portable and it’s a little deeper than other models, improving its longevity.
The bath can be used with the support stand or placed in a normal bath. The benefit of the support is that it saves you (and your back!) from having to lean over the bath. When using the stand, the bath’s handy shower fitting securely holds your bath’s shower head, making washing easier. The stand also includes anti-slip feet, a locking system to secure the bath and changing mat and it can be folded and stored when not in use.
The added benefit of the stand is that you can attach the multi-pouch, which includes two large storage nets and pockets, perfect for keeping your bathing products close at hand. When you’re done, the bath can be emptied using the handy plug and tube attachment.
For younger babies (birth to 3 months/up to 9kg), a shower net can be hooked securely to the bath. This hammock-style net supports your baby in the water and is ideal for a quick, stress-free wash.
The final element is the changing mat. Designed for its versatility, the mat features a detachable and wipe-clean soft foam support, that can be used attached to the Camélé’o stand, on a cot, chest of draws or on the floor. There are two draws for added storage as well as sidewalls and a backrest for added support.
What to look out for
The Béaba Camélé’o system is designed for use in small spaces, however when it was fully assembled with the stand, it was a little bulky to use in Kat’s small bathroom. Instead, it’s worked out best to use the baby bath on its own and keep the stand and changing mat assembled in the nursery – proof that the system meets its objective of using the different elements to suit your individual needs.
The cost is another factor. At £184.90 for the whole set, it’s more expensive than other models, but you can save money by only buying the bits you need. Also the quality and functionality of this product really is hard to beat.
Who is the BEABA Camélé’o Baby Bath System best for?
New parents who want an ergonomic, sturdy and stylish all-in-one for bath-and change-time.
BEABA really has ticked all the boxes when it comes to functionality, safety, versatility and design. However, it’s a little on the pricey side and slightly bulky when fully assembled.
