The Beaba Najell is the combined brainchild product of Beaba (the company that brought us the popular Babycook four-in-one food processer) and Najell, an up-and-coming Swedish baby brand. This is their first collaboration.

Tested by

Sybilla is a mum of five who lives on the Essex/Suffolk border. Sybilla has been testing the baby carrier on the school run, out and about, and at home with her two-month-old son Benjamin.

What were your first impressions of the baby carrier?

My first impressions of the Beaba Najell were good. The product definitely measures up to the one in the photos and the material is of excellent, hard-wearing quality. The grey colour is very stylish, too. However, I would say that it does look a bit like a large padded vest, which to be fair, I suppose it is!

What age can the Beaba Najell be used for?

The carrier can be used from birth to three years.

How easy is the BEABA Najell baby carrier to put on and take off?

You put the carrier on over your head and then fasten a belt across your waist, which sounds simple enough, but I must say that I found putting it over my head quite tricky. This meant my whole experience of the Beaba Najell started off on the wrong foot for me.

What are the different ways you can carry your baby with the Beaba Najell?

You can wear your baby four ways: facing inwards (towards your chest) or facing outwards and the same two ways on your back. It is recommended that your baby faces inwards from birth to six months and faces outwards from six months to three years. Carrying a baby on your back is recommended for use from ten months to three years.

Is the carrier ergonomic?

Yes, it really is ergonomic for your child and it supports babies’ hips, allowing them to sit in the ‘M’ position. It has also been classed as a ‘hip-healthy’ product by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Does it follow the TICKS guidelines?

Yes.

Is the Beaba Najell comfy for you?

Once you have managed to pull the carrier over your head, it is reasonably comfortable. The carrier also comes with a hip booster seat which places the weight of the baby on your hips far away from any sensitive pressure points.

najell7

How comfortable are the BEABA Najell baby carrier's shoulder straps?

These are wide, padded and adjustable by pulling on the straps at the side.

Are the BEABA Najell baby carrier's buckles easy to use?

These are magnetic, and are one of the main selling points of the Beaba Najell as they allow you fasten and unclasp the buckles with just one hand. You simply pull the tab up to open the buckles and then these will fasten and close automatically thanks to the magnetic force when you hold them close to the other.

najell-5

Is it easy to put your baby into the carrier?

Yes. You simply open the buckle and button on one side of the baby carrier, then slide the baby in from the side. Buckle and button the baby up again, and you are ready to go.

Is the Beaba Najell comfy for your baby?

Once I had figured it out how to use it, yes!

How does the BEABA Najell baby carrier compare to other carriers you have used?

Personally I prefer the Baby Bjorn carrier (£66.88 on Amazon), although I am aware that the Beaba Najell baby carrier is good for my back and my baby’s hips. In my opinion, the Najell is infinitely better than a wrap-style baby carrier which has limited support and I find is trickier to put on yourself.

prodcut-1

Can you breastfeed while wearing the BEABA Najell baby carrier?

Yes, you just have to move the harness so that your baby can access your breast. You will also need to support the baby’s head with your hand whilst you are feeding.

Is the Beaba Najell durable?

Yes, it is far from flimsy. Quality wise, it is one of the best baby carriers I have seen on the market.

najell8

Is it easy to clean?

The entire carrier can be washed at 40 degrees, which is a big bonus. The company advises placing it in a washing bag to protect the buckles and to lie it flat to dry after. It can’t be tumble dried.

Is it value for money?

It’s a quality product that ticks a lot of boxes, so I would say that it is.

Where can I buy the Beaba Najell baby carrier?

Its available to buy from Amazon.

MadeForMums verdict

This is a sleek offering for parents who plan to use a carrier for a long time and have the time, patience and inclination to get to grips with all the different positions and age settings.
