Very well padded to keep your baby comfortable, the 3-point harness is fully secure, and has a Velcro-stripped pad over the locking mechanism to prevent those terribly cute little ‘fish fingers’ from getting up to mischief.
Although this bouncer has no vibrating effect, which babies often find very soothing, being multi-height adjustable has comforting effects of its own, in that eye contact and that warm bond between baby and parent(s) can be maintained no matter what you’re doing.
The slightly curved base allows the BEABA Up & Down rocker to rock, although a simple blocking system can keep it static.
Size-wise, depending on backrest setting it's 48cm-70cm deep, and from 18cm to 60cm high.
What we love
Where do I start? The comfort, the safety, and the freedom it gives me daily without being apart from my baby.
Best of all is the adjustable height. It transforms the BEABA Up & Down rocker from an ordinary rocker into a first-class seat, perfect for interaction whether you’re on the floor, lying on the couch or standing. It can even be used as a highchair for feeding during weaning.
Although it has no toy bar, the BEABA Up & Down rocker has two large circular handles to which toys and fluffy animals can be attached, making it an elevated play gym. It also comes with a removable head hugger for very young babies and the entire upholstery is fully machine washable.
And unlike playmats, it keeps your baby up to four levels above ‘undesirables’ like floor dust, crawling insects and even small pets. The height positions put the rocker at 60cm, 46cm, 35cm and 18cm.
What to watch out for
At a RRP of £120, the BEABA Up & Down rocker is on the expensive side, despite the many advantages over ordinary rockers. It’s not for babies over 9kg in weight, so its use will be limited to around 6-9 months only.
Also, the click-and-push/pull system to adjust the seat height works perfectly when lowering the seat, but can be sticky (and need more than two hands) when upping the height. I found it particularly hard to adjust upwards when my baby was already in the seat.
Who is the BEABA Up & Down rocker best for?
Any parent needing to get on with chores while their baby is awake.
If you can afford that bit extra over an ordinary rocker, this stylish, multi-use product is a good buy. Your baby will love being able to see the world and you, and this comfy rocker even provides a place for your baby to sit when weaning too.
