Whether you're off on holiday, camping for the weekend or sending your child on their first sleepover, a travel bed, day bed or sleeping bag for your little one can be a great way to bring a touch of home to the road.

When your child is a bit too big for a travel cot but not quite able to sleep in the bigger beds you'll find in most hotels, a kid's travel bed can definitely come in handy.

There are loads of great options available in a range of styles, materials and patterns, which is why we've put together a list of our favourites as recommended by the parents from our 4000+ strong Top Testers Club and the parenting experts on the team.

Best kids and toddler travel beds, day beds and sleeping bags

1. Intex Kidz Air bed Travel Air mattress with Hand Pump, £35

Best airbed for kids

Intex Kids Airbed

Quite a few of the parent testers on our Top Testers Club recommended the Intex Kidz Air Bed for its simplicity making it the perfect travel companion.

Intex is a well-known brand with a great reputation for making long-lasting airbeds at a reasonable price.

As parent tester Eleanor pointed out, "The sides prevent little ones from rolling out, it didn’t break the bank to buy and it deflates very compact into a bag for travelling."

It's an airbed so there is always the risk it might pop (something one of our parent testers had an experience with) but for the price and the ease of use, there aren't many drawbacks to the Intex Kidz Air bed (other than the 'z' in kidz).

"We brought it because we had booked a last-minute break to Butlins and my son still sleeps in a cot bed, and I didn’t want to put him in bunk beds," said parent tester Sam. "It worked a treat! We have since taken it to a hotel for an overnight stay and we will also be taking it on a cruise we are due to take next month."

2. Stokke JetKids CloudSleeper Inflatable Kids' Bed, £115

Best for storing and packing

Jet Kids Cloud Sleeper

On the pricer end of the market is this adorable airbed from Stokke. The CloudSleeper includes a built-in pump for easy setup as well as a breathable mesh surface to ensure comfort. It also packs down into a compact cube meaning it won't take up too much space when travelling.

Due to the price, this is definitely one for families who travel regularly or maybe grandparents who don't have a spare bed for when the grandkids come to stay but it is a premium product with a particularly cute design.

"After a lot of deliberation, I got the Stokke Jetkids and am VERY happy with it after really wincing at the price," Parent tester Agniya said. "It does actually fold up super tiny and doesn’t take up half your luggage if you’re on public transport/flying/short of space."

3. Bluey My First Ready Bed, £45

Best for Bluey fans

Bluey Travel Bed

We've said this one's 'best for Bluey fans' but we might as well have said 'best for everyone' because who doesn't love Bluey?

This airbed isn't just adorable, though, it's an all-in-one sleeping solution with a built-in machine-washable cover, headrest and 'tumble-free sides', this is perfect if you're looking to pack as little as possible.

It won't last too long as it only has an age range from 18 months to 4 years but while in use it provides a great, comfortable experience. There is also a pump and travel case included as well as a small built-in pocket you can use to store books.

"It's so easy to put up and take down and she seems to find it comfortable," said parent tester Mandy. "She won't get loads of room out of it as it's only up to age 3, but a small 4-year-old would fit as well."

Available at: Asda

4. Sunnylife Kids Monster Sleepover Bed, £74.95

Best for sleepovers

SunnyLife Monster Bed

If you're looking for a good airbed for when your child has a friend over to stay then this monstrous option from SunnyLife Kids is a great pick.

It is on the expensive side, but its larger size means it will last you for many, many sleepovers (provided it doesn't pop, of course).

The bed comes in two colourways - pink and green - which make for a fun, aesthetic-looking spare bed that doesn't take up too much space when not in use.

Available from: Harrods

5. Millard Portable Toddler Bumper Bed, £104.99

Best for comfort

Millard Travel Bed

This particular toddler bed was recommended by one of our parent testers thanks to its comfort and versatility, and it's easy to see why.

As it's not inflatable, it won't be as portable as an airbed, but it more than makes up for it with the cosy, soft materials and machine-washable mattress cover.

It's definitely an investment, but it has plenty of room meaning it will last you a long time and can be used as storage when folded up.

"We have this one and it’s fab," said parent tester Bridget. " It has been used on camping trips, visits to the grandparents and as a snuggle spot in the lounge room for a movie."

Available from: Amazon

6. Copplestones Inflatable Airbed for Children, £59.99

Best for flexibility

KidsAirbed

The Copplestones Inflatable Child's Airbed comes highly recommended by one of our parent testers, who noted how comfortable and easy to use it is.

It's also the only bed on this list that comes in two pieces, allowing you to change the sleeping area as your child grows.

"We have the Cobblestone one for our daughter and love it," said parent tester Gemma. "It’s super comfy and her cot bed sheets fit over it, which is a bonus."

It's not the smallest and most portable pick on our list, but if you're looking for a good mid-range airbed that will offer you flexibility when on the road, this is a great option.

Gemma added, "Our daughter absolutely loves her travel bed and actually complains when she has to go in her toddler bed after visiting family."

7. Bed in a Bag from The Great Little Trading Company, £120

Best for style

bed in a bag, blush pink

If finding something that looks good in your home is a priority, and you don't mind spending a bit more, then this stylish 'Bed in a Bag' from The Great Little Trading Company is a great pick.

Known for its well-designed and beautiful kid's furniture, The Great Little Trading Company are a reliable, premium brand with an eye on form and function.

It is available in 'blush pink' and 'denim blue' colourways, both of which fit into any modern home.

Why do I need a kids travel bed?

Like travel cots, kids' travel beds provide an on-the-go sleeping option that means you won’t have to rely on sleeping arrangements at your destination.

A majority of the parent testers we asked had used a travel bed for everything from sleepovers to camping, as they offer additional comfort and, in the case of travel beds featuring bumpers, support for children when they're away from their main bed.

How much does a kids travel bed cost?

Our list includes options ranging from £35 to £120 depending on the brand and type of mattress. In general, most of the airbeds on offer tend to be at a lower price point than those that use other materials. Generally, in our research, we didn't find many options at a higher price point than £120.
