Pros

  • Luxurious feel, fits snugly to the mattress, waterproof layer, breathable, anti-allergy barrier, available in a wide range of sizes from crib upwards, easy to care for

Cons

  • Stays very wet if your child does have an accident

The new Bibs and Stuff Waterproof Fitted Mattress Protector will protect bedding from night-time accidents, and is made from luxurious flannel cotton for a comfy night’s sleep.

Bibs and Stuff has been supplying innovative nursery products for 13 years and has recently launched its own collection of mattress protectors, priced from £10. The range was launched in 2009 and now includes two deluxe Sheet and Mattress Protectors, a Quilted Sheet Protector Pad and the latest addition: the Fitted Polyethylene Mattress Protector – all available in a range of sizes, from crib to single bed.

What we love

We’ve been testing the luxurious Waterproof Fitted Mattress Protector, made from 100% soft flannel cotton. It’s super-soft to the touch and adds a comfy layer to your child’s bedding. This protector is used under your child’s bottom sheet, so it will protect the mattress, but you will need to strip the bed if your child has an accident (although you could always go without a bottom sheet, as it’s very comfy to sleep on).

The Bibs and Stuff Waterproof Fitted Mattress Protector is absorbent and breathable so won’t make your child perspire. It also has an anti-allergy barrier to protect against dust mites.

The sheet is elasticated to fit neatly on to your child’s mattress. It is suitable from birth and is available in crib, cot and single bed size priced at £22.

So onto the ‘wee test’ (me pouring water over it)… Well, it’s certainly waterproof! My ‘puddle’ took quite a while to absorb, and the top felt very wet, but eventually it did soak through to the middle layer, without wetting the back.

It’s easy to look after, as it can be machine-washed and tumble dried.

What to watch out for

If your child does has an accident they will certainly know about it! I thought my ‘wee test’ took too long to soak through to the middle, and the puddle left behind would leave your child feeling very uncomfortable and wet. However, if you’re trying to help you child wake when they have an accident, you might like that it alerts your child to wetness.

Although you can use it without, I prefer to have a bottom sheet on top of the protector, which means a complete bed change if there is a night-time accident.

Who is the Bibs and Stuff Waterproof Fitted Mattress Protector best for?

Parents after a scrunch-free top of the range option.

MadeForMums verdict

The Bibs and Stuff Waterproof Fitted Mattress Protector is a quality, durable product. It has the comfort-factor without the scrunchy feel and sound of a traditional waterproof mattress protector, but it does stay very wet if your child has an accident.
