Packaged in a pleasing spring-like shade of green, Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes come in fairly fat packs of 64 wipes. They contain natural calendula, known for its ability to calm irritable skin, and the fragrant Linden flower, renowned for its soothing properties. The plant extracts are authenticated by the Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew, so you know they’re the real deal.
What we love
It feels like there's a specialist wipe for everything these days, and some of you may wonder what exactly the difference is between the wipes you use for baby and the ones you use to clean your own face. One major plus of Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes is the fact that they’re actually sold as gentle enough to take off your own make-up – so you can share the pack with baby, rather than splash out on separate wipes for each of you.
Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes are quite thick, have a nice subtle natural smell and are extremely moist. They were very efficient at cleaning up some horrendously messy nappy areas from my baby son, with no nappy rash after their use. Unlike some cheaper wipes, I didn't have to use several to get the job done.
What's also great is that these wipes are biodegradable, so are kind to the planet. And if you do use any for make-up removal, they can go in your compost bin.
What to watch out for
Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes suffer from a common wipe problem in that it's sometimes tricky to get one out at a time.
The pack is sealed with a resealable sticker, which is greener than a plastic snap-pack but also fiddly.
I found Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes worked really well taking off blusher and foundation on my face, though they perhaps felt a little harsher than some facial wipes I’ve used. They didn't manage to remove some stubborn eyeliner – but given that these are still mainly aimed at my baby and not me, this probably isn't a major problem!
While I personally loved the wipes packaging, I wonder if they look a little too tasteful and that some mums will pass them by not realising they're intended for baby.
Who are Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes best for?
Mums and babies who want to share a compost-friendly wipe.
With myriad baby wipes on the shelves all doing similar jobs, the Boots Botanics Gentle and Mild Baby Wipes stand out in that mums can use them as well as baby. The tasteful adult-orientated packaging is more attractive than lots of wipes, if that's important to you. However, this also means they don't necessarily look like a baby product and you could miss them on the shelf. With gentle plant extracts that help soothe your baby's skin, we also like the fact that when used to remove make-up you can compost them.
