Pros

  • Stylish Scandinavian design, fully adjustable, solid, good for smaller babies due to its adjustability

Cons

  • No foldaway option, wide base, wipe-clean tray holds on to dirt, food tray and cushion cost extra

Not a whiff of cheap plastic in sight on this quality Scandinavian highchair, the BRIO Sit. And it’s ideal for babies who start out in life on the smaller side.

I am still waiting for the people at BRIO to offer a product that's low quality or badly designed, and it doesn't look like this is going to happen with this latest offering from the Scandinavian designers. The BRIO Sit is so well designed that it's as much a piece of furniture as a highchair, so you won't be rushing to stuff it into a cupboard when you want to impress visitors. And it can be used once your baby's past the highchair phase, handling weights up to 100kg.

What we love

One of the best things about the BRIO Sit is that is fits all sizes of baby. Jack, 14 months, is a bit of a bruiser so he used his BRIO Sit highchair on a 'wider' setting, but even our friend Minnie May, 6 months, who’s on the small-but-beautiful scale, was secure with the safety bar on the smallest setting.

The removable wipe-clean food tray, which you purchase separately, is very well designed and the rounded edges mean that there are no fiddly corners from which to excavate food.

If space is an issue in your house then the BRIO Sit highchair is a good option. It fits neatly under most tables, although the base is quite wide. The Sit doesn’t foldaway (feet are removable for storage) but its cool design means that it is supposed to be on display, rather than hidden away in a cupboard.

The seat, foot rest and safety bar are removable so this BRIO Sit really could see your little one into adult life – BRIO claims that it could even be used as a step ladder!

Unlike so many highchairs this one is height adjustable – it has five different settings, which is great for keeping your baby at the right height for your table as he or she grows.

Also, although this highchair is not cheap, it's extremely robust so you do feel like you are getting value for money.

What to watch out for

Although the safety bar is included, you’ll need to purchase the food tray and waterproof, food-phobic cushion separately. This is vaguely annoying that they have to be purchased as extras when the highchair wouldn't be much use for a baby without them! Also, the down side of the food tray is that the textured surface does tend to hold onto dirt so needs a good scrub to make sure it comes up clean.

Who is the BRIO Sit highchair best for?

Design-minded parents after a versatile option that’s much too smart to hide away.

MadeForMums verdict

Robust and design-conscious, the BRIO Sit grows with your child from a table-height highchair into a stand-alone chair or even stepladder. Its adjustability means children of different sizes are looked after, too. But watch out for the price - the extras add up.
