For £360 you get the pushchair frame and seat in basic grey, with a newborn insert and raincover included too. It is then up to you to choose a colour pack to go with it (this comprises hood, seat cover and shopping basket cover) for a very reasonable additional £48. You also get a choice of chassis colour from either black, white or silver, meaning you can really personalise your travel system and get it looking exactly how you want it. Additional accessories include a carrycot, a footmuff and a changing bag, all in matching shades to the different colour packs.
What we love
The Affinity takes less than fifteen minutes to assemble, with all the parts easily clicking into place without the hassle of needing to use tools. The instructions are clear and concise, plus there are lots of videos available online to demonstrate things and give you extra tips, should you need them.
Once put together, the Affinity is a very sturdy pushchair. Even the hood has structure to it, which is something I really liked. There is nothing flimsy about it at all - it’s a chunky, solid stroller that feels really safe. I would have no qualms about using it for a newborn, especially with the cosy fleece newborn insert that comes with it. Although you couldn’t use this pushchair overnight, it reclines fully horizontally which makes it perfect for napping babies – a real selling-point as not all pushchairs on the market at the moment offer this. There are three other more upright positions and, of course, the seat can also be parent or forward facing, which is a must-have feature for all good travel systems nowadays.
The Affinity has leather handles and bumper bar, which might sound a bit pretentious but it makes a huge difference in the comfort stakes and is actually one of my favourite features of the pram!
The shopping basket is huge, one of the largest I’ve seen on a pram. You can easily fit three shopping bags in it, and it is very easily accessible too, whether the seat is in a parent or forward facing position. This is a real plus for busy mums doing their shopping on the go.
The frame is extra lightweight (only 11kg) and can be folded with the seat in situ, which is a fantastic added bonus, and the brake is, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever seen on any pram, pushchair or stroller. There is a very simple, quite large pedal next to the right wheel that is easy to find and use, and moves from on (red) to off (green) with no repetitive kicking required!
The built in front suspension, adjustable rear suspension and air filled rear tyres make the Affinity a particularly smooth and comfortable ride, both for me and for my daughter, and makes it easy to manoeuvre, even when you are in a hurry. It really is a pleasure to push.
What to watch out for
My only problem with the pushchair is that the seat seems rather small. My daughter has only just turned six months and her head is already fairly close to the hood when she is sits in it. The pushchair is meant to last until a child is 4 years but I can imagine us outgrowing it fairly soon.
Who is the Britax Affinity best for?
The Affinity is perfect for parents that walk a lot, and it offers full functionality as well as stylish design.
A superb pram, with all the features that you would want from a travel system, as well as being incredibly easy to use. It is functional and stylish, although the seat could be slightly more spacious, to accommodate older tots.
