The B-Mobile has a choice of a 3-wheeler or 4-wheeler chassis and is compatible with a choice of Britax’s own car seats - the BABY-SAFE Sleeper, BABY-SAFE, BABY-SAFE plus and BABY-SAFE plus SHR. The buggy costs £179.99 and the car seat prices vary a little between models, but the BABY-SAFE plus I trialled retails for £104.99. However, many big names online often have the buggy and car seats at a reduced price.
The BABY-SAFE Sleeper is a lie-flat Group 0 car seat, and adding this to the B-Mobile buggy makes for a carrycot-like option, with a multi-position backrest. However it will only last from birth to 6 months, or 10kg. The BABY-SAFE, BABY-SAFE plus and BABY-SAFE plus SHR are all Group 0+ car seats, so are suitable from birth to 13kg, or 15 months. Britax’s one-step CLICK & GO system makes attaching any of these car seats to the buggy chassis simple.
What we love
While the Britax B-Mobile travel system has all the appeal of a lightweight stroller, it provides so much more. I trialled the 4-wheeler option, and with the lightweight aluminium chassis and all-round suspension, its manoeuvrability is outstanding. It handles corners effortlessly and with its front lockable swivel wheels, the B-Mobile’s turning circle is faultless.
I was particularly impressed with how easy the B-Mobile was to manoeuvre with the single handle bar, even when the 3.5kg BABY-SAFE Plus car seat was attached. It meant I could keep hold of my son Sam’s hand while pushing my newborn baby at the same time.
With a weight of just 6.4kg, the B Mobile is light and compact, and slipped into the car boot with the minimum of fuss. Plus, there’s plenty of room left for the shopping bags.
The Britax B-Mobile travel system’s design also gives easy access to the roomy zip up storage basket underneath and the rear-hood pocket is the perfect place to store anything from drinking cups to car keys.
The one-step CLICK & GO system means the car seat can be removed one-handed by simply pressing a button on the carry handle - another huge plus point when trying to juggle 10 things at once. I also liked the upright position a baby can enjoy whilst riding in this seat, unlike some others on the market.
What to watch out for
There’s little to criticise when it comes to the Britax B-Mobile but my main bugbear is the BABY-SAFE plus car seat’s sun canopy. While it’s excellent at blocking your baby from the sun, once in place it shields most of the carry handle, making it awkward to hold. It’s also not the easiest of car seats to load your baby in and out of, again the canopy being to blame. However, once it’s removed, the carry handle is simple to tilt backwards and forwards, making this job easy.
While I expected the cosytoes to be an optional extra, I was surprised to find that the raincover isn’t included in the price either.
Who is the Britax B-Mobile travel system best for?
Mums on the go who need a lightweight travel system that can be used one-handed.
The B-Mobile is a sturdy and easy to use travel system. Its lightweight frame, good handling and one-handed CLICK & GO system make it an ideal option for mums juggling a toddler as well as a baby. While you need to be prepared to pay a little extra for the raincover, it’s a great all-rounder that can be taken on all modes of transport and offers good value for money.
