When I decided to buy a Moses basket it wasn’t with my most practical head on. I was more in the earth mother mode of having my baby lying next to me, gently reaching over to feed in the night and he/she cooed at me from their cocoon (little did I know what was to come). So when I spotted the I Love My Bear range, by the Babies R Us own-brand Bruin, I couldn’t resist. All soft creams with an itty-bitty bear design on, and it even had a hood with three detachable toys. Awww!
On the practical side it was an inexpensive alternative compared to other Moses basket brands and included a mattress and fitted sheet. Once I had Mia I soon realised the portability of this particular Moses basket was a bonus, its sturdy carry handles survived many trips up and down the stairs.
What we love
Apart from the oh-so-cute factor, the Bruin I Love My Bear Moses Basket is affordable, which is a serious consideration when you’ll only be using it for a few weeks or months (it's recommended for between 0-9kg). Around the 6-week mark, Mia decided she didn’t like not being able to see and we had to move her to a cot. At that point it got chucked in a cupboard and retrieved for sale on eBay a few months later. It looked a bit grubby so I whipped off all the covers and washed them and they looked brand new.
It’s a top seller for Babies R Us/Toys R Us and as part of the very popular range I Love My Bear I can understand why. There’s matching bedding, light shades, change boxes – basically all you’d need to kit out a nursery. Lots of other mums reviewing this Moses basket have said it’s a good idea in the first few weeks as your babe is less able to roll around.
What to watch out for
The only problem we encountered was Mia deciding she wanted to see what was happening, and a Moses basket doesn’t allow a baby to do that. We got a separate Moses basket stand and it worked very well, despite the fact we bought it from a different shop.
The fact the Bruin I Love My Bear Moses Basket included a mattress was great but the so-called quilt it comes with is a bit misleading - it’s more a piece of fabric a few inches across and we never used it with the basket.
You’ve also got to be a bit handy with an iron if you take the liner off – it came out very crumpled and (much to my despair) wouldn’t go back on without a good pressing.
Who is the Bruin I Love My Bear Moses Basket best for?
Mums of newborns who don’t have space in their bedroom for a cot.
This is a beautiful looking Moses basket that’s part of the popular I Love My Bear range. Gentle on the pocket and nice to look at, this provides a good – and moveable - sleeping solution for those early weeks of your baby’s life.
