The bottle warming insert is simple to use - you just sit it into the steriliser with your bottle or jar of food inside, add the right amount of water for the volume of food, leave the lid off and start the steriliser.
What we love
The instructions are simple to follow and setting up the Bruin rapid steam sterilising system is pretty straightforward anyway.
I tried six wide necked bottles (two were the curvy Bruin Free Flow and the others were some Philips AVENT wide necks) and they fitted in without any creative arranging! Not only that, sterilising them took less than the advertised six minutes.
The lid handle changes colour as it heats up, so no matter how sleep deprived or mummy-brained you get, this safety feature will remind you not to open the steam-filled steriliser in your own direction.
The cord can be removed to help it store more easily. It’s also a good length. Our bench tops have enough other kit (toaster, blender, kettle, sandwich grill) near the power socket, but the length of the steriliser cord was long enough for the steriliser not to hog all the prime bench space.
The food warming insert takes wide necked bottles. It’s straightforward to use too. Heating chilled milk (125ml feed) in a wide necked bottle took about two minutes. Depending on amount of feed, bottle type and size and what the starting temperature is, you need to add different amounts of water – I’m thrilled to say these are printed on the warmer as well as on an instruction sheet!
Also, it's currently on sale for £14.99 - what a bargain!
What to watch out for
When using the warming insert, the lid needs to be off so hot steam escapes –be careful not to bend over the steriliser, or stand directly with a wiggly baby in your arms.
The Bruin rapid steam sterilising system it isn’t small or easy to hide by any means, but luckily it looks clean and smart with its smooth white curves.
A proper clean/descale of the steel element is advised – and at least once a week. If you don’t, the Bruin rapid steam sterilising system won’t be performing at its best. The instructions tell you how to clean it with citric acid (from the chemist), or by using household vinegar and water.
Who is the Bruin rapid steam sterilising system best for?
Mums after a fast steriliser and bottle warmer in one who are happy to gain capacity in return for bench space.
The Bruin rapid steam sterilising system is a fast, good value steriliser and food warmer that can handle plenty of bottles. For safety, it has automatic switch off and the lid handle that changes colour as it heats up. While it isn’t compact, its clean design should mean it won’t look too bad on display in your kitchen. Make sure you clean/descale it weekly as the instructions suggest, to keep it working at its best.
