With mute and vibrate functions and a light display showing noise levels, you can monitor your child without having to listen to them. Five polyphonic lullabies, a port for an MP3 player, a temperature monitor and a torch on the parent unit are some of the other useful functions.
What we love
I’ve used BT monitors for nearly 3 years and have had the BT 150 for 11 months and it’s never let me down. The sound quality is amazing, I can literally hear my children breathe when I want to and in fact have to reduce the sensitivity to 4 unless I want to watch the TV accompanied by my eldest son’s snoring!
The range is amazing – I’ve never needed to be further away than this monitor allows even when staying in hotels and popping down for dinner.
It’s easy to use and has the vital alerts that are important (even on mute it will beep if the units become disconnected or the battery’s running low).
The lullabies are addictive – my eldest son Finn associates sleep with the ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ tune and if he wakes in the night it’s often sufficient for me to just turn on the lullaby from the parent unit. If you don’t like the lullabies (and they do get annoying) you can record anything you like (your voice/special song) and use that instead. You can even plug in an MP3 player for more variety.
What to watch out for
The temperature readings may not be completely accurate – something a lot of mums online find annoying. I can tell instantly from the reading whether or not extra blankets are needed, although it is possible that the 20° on my display isn’t a true 20°.
There’s a nightlight on the baby unit with three different levels but I don’t think it’s bright enough. I tried to use it to breastfeed by in the early days of my new baby Noah’s night feedings and struggled to even see his mouth, so had to invest in a normal nightlight.
For me, I think the main question is whether you actually need all the gadgets. I don’t use the torch on the parent unit (although my partner likes the facility – I think it’s a men and gadgets thing). I never use the vibrate function. And I’m still not sure why I’d need to use the timer (you can set it to count up or down from 1 second to 99 hours 59 minutes).
Who is the BT 150 best for?
Mums who want the clearest possible monitoring you can get on a sound only monitor.
This is a peace of mind monitor – great sound quality and an ability to soothe babies from the comfort of your bed. And while you may not use all the functions, you’ll never sit there thinking ‘I wish my baby monitor could do that…”
