Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter is one way to pamper yourself during pregnancy - and help prevent jelly belly once the baby's born. While there’s no miracle cream that can do the job of 100 abdominal crunches, this butter is a good place to start.
This magic tub can be used during pregnancy and also in the weeks afterwards to give your tummy a head start on getting back to its toned, smooth self. The Belly Butter contains cocoa butter and vitamin E to soothe that tight, itchy feeling across the bump and help minimise stretchmarks. It's just rich enough to do the job, but doesn't leave an annoying oil slick on your clothes.
And because Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter is “98.65% natural” you don't need to worry about any parabens or sulphates coming into contact with your precious bump. The big ingredients here are “triglycerides of fatty acids made from the cacao tree”, which condition your skin and help you get your smooth, healthy-looking skin stomach back once the bump’s gone.
What we love
If you've replaced your evening glass of wine with a nightly bath, this is the perfect way to finish off the day. It's thick - a proper butter, rather than a cream - but a real pleasure to rub on and easily absorbed. Or if you have a well-trained partner, it's a pleasure for him to rub on!
By the time I discovered Belly Butter at 25 weeks, I'd tried just about every cream I could get my hands on as I was determined not to end up with stretchmarks. Once I found Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter, I used it right up until the end of my pregnancy - and beyond. Not sure if it's luck, genetics or the power of Burt's Bees, but when I finally dared to look down again there wasn't a single stretchmark in sight.
Even though I developed a freakily sensitive sense of smell during pregnancy, I still didn't find the fragrance too overpowering in the same way a lot of other creams were. But now I've ditched the fast-expanding, itchy bump I only use it just before bed so it doesn't clash with daytime perfume. And it really is worth using after pregnancy - I was dreading the thought of a spongey, wrinkled stomach but I feel it's really helped the area of doom look the best it can at the moment!
What to watch for
The sweet smell might not be for everyone - and like all fragrances, if pregnancy's making you a bit queasy it may make it worse
Who is Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter best for?
Mums-to-be and new mums who want to pamper and attempt to keep a jelly belly at bay.
MadeForMums verdict
Not the cheapest product around, but definitely worth it for maximum stretchmark busting efforts. Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter is thick, buttery and easily absorbed. A pleasure to use, and the cocoa butter and vitamin E will ease that itchy skin, too.
