The Kiddy Discovery Pro is an extremely safe, comfortable and adjustable car seat produced by a highly regarded and award winning company.
Safety is right at the heart of the German designed Kiddy Discovery Pro. It’s based on the highly successful Kiddy Pro range of car seats, which have won awards from German testing organisations ADAC and Stiftung Warentest.
The seat features an elevated thigh support that helps to prevent your child sliding underneath the seat belt in the case of an accident (known as anti submarine effect). The side sections of the seat extend further to the front than many of its competitors, providing more lateral impact protection. Add to this the fact the seat is made using extreme shock absorbing insulation materials known as honey comb and EPP (expanding polypropylene) and you have one very safe place to put your child.
There’s a big choice of colours – 11 to be exactly - and the price varies from £125 to £145 depending on which one you choose.
What we love
Bertie is 4 and he loves the Kiddy Discovery Pro - its ergonomic design means he can always see out of the window and the massive amount of padding around him means he is very comfortable. As it’s well padded with an extendable thigh support and very deep shoulder supports, I’m sure would be very nice to fall asleep on during a long journey – if only my boys would!
The height and width of the seat can also be adjusted with one lever, although I did find it a little stiff to move. The seat fabric is a highly breathable thermotex designed to optimise air flow and keep your child cool, which I’d imagine would be much needed on a hot day (we had this seat in November) as they are surrounded by a lot of padding.
The Kiddy Discovery Pro is very easy to install. You literally just place it on the car’s seat and as it weighs only 6.1kg even I managed this in my current heavily pregnant state. This seat would be very easy to move between cars when needed. The seat also has a recline function but as with most seats in this group this needs to be set before you strap in the child.
For me it’s the safety features that make this seat stand out.
What to watch out for
My older boys didn’t like the seat as much as Bertie. They found it a little restrictive particularly around the headrest, which doesn’t adjust when you make the seat larger.
Although this seat is adjustable one-handed and has a feature to lengthen the thigh area to add comfort it doesn’t appear to grow with your child quite to the end of the specified 4-12 years age range. You can’t remove the back to turn it into a simple booster seat either.

The Kiddy Comfort Pro is a fantastically safe seat that’s light and easy to install. However the one handed adjustments are very stiff to move and the seat as a whole could feel overly restrictive for older children. Definitely one for the younger age range.
