The Chicco Skip is decent value for money, provides a very smooth ride and is surprisingly sturdy on a variety of terrains. However, doesn’t fold up to a super-compact size and could definitely use a different colour scheme.
What we love
When I started pushing the Chicco Skip I was amazed that it pushed so easily and provided a relatively smooth ride. Many times, lightweight buggies can rattle and shudder with every bump and step but the Chicco Skip easily handled varied terrains and remained very consistent throughout the journeys.
The seat was adequate to keep my daughter, Ella, comfortable and the harness was quite secure and sturdy as well.
The handle seems a bit small but is nicely padded and has a quirky angle to it, which makes it more ergonomic for pushing.
Some lightweight buggies cause me to kick the wheels when pushing but the frame design of the Chicco Skip allowed me to walk with my usual stride and not kick the wheels.
I’d initially assumed that the Chicco Skip wouldn’t cope well with wet, soggy terrain because the wheels are rather small but I was quite surprised that the Chicco Skip easily handled the off-road terrain.
What to watch out for
The initial assembly, folding and unfolding of the Chicco Skip was a bit awkward and not very straightforward. The Chicco Skip is meant to be freestanding when folded thanks to a “foot” that will prop it up, but this seems to be a relatively unnecessary feature.
When folded, the Chicco Skip isn’t overly compact in depth but as it folds in half, it’s not as long as some other lightweight buggies.
We received the Chicco Skip in “Glamour”, the black and white colourway. The canopy, part of the seat and the shoulder pads are white, which is extremely impractical for a buggy, both for sun protection purposes and for appearance and durability if you have a toddler! There are other colour options and I’d suggest that those would be preferable.
The shopping basket, as with most lightweight buggies, isn’t useful or effective, particularly when the seat is reclined.
The seat has multiple recline options but the toggle clip that holds the seat in the reclined position is rather flimsy and wouldn’t hold up to robust activity.
The brake seems rather metallic but does hold well.
Who is the Chicco Skip lightweight buggy best for?
Families on a budget after a lightweight buggy for short trips out and about.
The Chicco Skip is a functional and comfortable lightweight buggy. It’ll manoeuvre easily and smoothly on a variety of terrain but is best suited for short trips out and about. The “Glamour” (white and black) colour scheme is rather impractical, but overall the Skip is a reasonably sturdy pushchair that offers good value for money.
