Travel cots are notoriously hard to put up. And, at the end of a long journey the last thing you need is a swearing partner who can’t figure out the instructions and a crying baby who wants to sleep. However, putting the Cosatto 4 in 1 Travel Cot/Play Pen up is simply a case of pushing down the stays, which keep the cot taught, and locking them into place.
A handy carry bag makes the Cosatto 4 in 1 Travel Cot/Play Pen easy to transport when folded and the lockable, swivel wheels mean that it can be moved around – handy for when you end up with the box room rather than the penthouse suite.
For younger babies there’s a high-level bassinet that clips onto the frame and hangs inside the main cot. When your child is older, the bassinette is removed and you use the low level cot.
A removable, wipe-clean cot top changer is a useful accessory and saves you packing a changing mat. The changer clips on to the frame, at one end of the cot, and can be removed and folded away. The removable foam mattress is easy to clean.
Available in Night Night (pink) or 40 Winks (blue), the design is simple and modern and wouldn’t look out of place in any nursery.
What we love
The bassinet feature of the Cosatto 4 in 1 Travel Cot/Play Pen is a novel idea. Suitable from birth to around 3 months, the high-level mode means that you don’t have to lean down into the cot. And what’s more, because your baby is higher up, and not at floor level, it’s easier to keep a watchful eye on them, too.
The lockable swivel wheels are super useful. As anyone who has spent a night in a so called ‘double’ room (read: not enough room to swing a cat) will testify, being able to easily move a travel cot is a major plus.
The wipe clean cot top changer is great accessory for newborns, although you may want to put a towel on top to reduce the shock to your baby of lying on cold plastic.
As a playpen, Minnie, 9 months, loved this cot. It’s roomy enough so that she could crawl around and the webbing side panels mean that there’s no fear of arms getting stuck between bars.
What to watch out for
As with most travel cots, the mattress is thin and doesn’t looks comfortable. Minnie seemed to sleep well but the mattress is only around an inch thick and she can’t talk, so who knows.
If travelling light is a priority then this is not the travel cot for you. Weighing 8.8kg, what you gain in size and accessories, you lose in portability. We considered taking it on a plane journey but the weight issue prevented us. The size could also be a disadvantage - when unfolded the travel cot is 128cm long and 67cm wide, so you would need to check beforehand that it’ll fit in your hotel room.
Folding the cot away requires you to unlock the frame by pushing the buttons in the middle of the bars, these are hard to find at first but once you’ve got the knack it’s easy.
At £90, the Cosatto 4 in 1 Travel Cot/Play Pen is more expensive than some permanent cots.
