In a nutshell

A good value, practical and eye-catching travel system. The Cabi is also versatile, converting from a pram to a rear facing or forward facing buggy, and cosy, too.

The Cabi 3 in 1 Combi and Cabi car seat from Cosatto form a stylish travel system that has all you’ll need in one handy package.

Cosatto – pronounced “Cos-are-toe” – has a 4-year guarantee on its buggies and every bit of kit it creates because it believes in the quality of its goods so much. Cosatto’s catch cry is “Baby Stuff with personality". So with our new baby Freya being child number four, we put our wealth of hands-on experience to the test and stepped out with the Cabi, which Cosatto calls a “Do Everything Pushchair”.

The Cabi 3 in 1 Combi consists of a pram body, pushchair, chassis, cosytoes, raincover, and carry bag including messy bag and changing mat. Basically, that’s everything you need in one handy package, which costs about £359.99.

The chassis is a simple design with clean lines and a stylish look that I think shows a nod towards other popular buggies on the market, such as the Bugaboo with its low pram body and configuration of two large rear wheels and two small front swivel wheels that can easily lock into a fixed position. When you add to this the striking colour combinations (I tried ‘Pitch’, which is black and vibrant yellow) this is a buggy not to be missed. It definitely got us noticed!

The Cosatto Cabi range includes a rear facing Group 0+ car seat, which you purchase separately for £99.99, to turn the Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi in to a travel system. The Cabi car seat clips onto the buggy’s chassis, completing the travel system and ensuring that it really is a “Do everything” option as the company claims. You can also use the popular Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix car seat, with some very simple Car Seat Adaptors. Some retailers sell the Cabi 3 in 1 Combi and Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix and adaptors as a package deal.

What we love

The Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi was extremely easy to assemble and fits together very securely. Everything clicks positively into place. The pram not only slides onto the chassis clips, but also has Velcro straps attached to D-rings, which I found reassuringly stable.

In buggy mode the Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi is both versatile and parent friendly. It has a 5-point harness, removable bumper bar and the option of the seat to be either forward or rear facing. The buggy seat also has three recline positions, including a flat position for that all-important napping on the go (how else would one enjoy a latte in the coffee shop whilst out and about?!)

Practicality doesn’t end there though - the Cabi has a very generous shopping basket, simple to use brake and most important, that 4-year guarantee ensuring should anything go wrong you’re covered.

The Cabi feels like a very light buggy, yet still very stable. This is a bonus if - like me - you need to have larger siblings holding on, in order to cross roads etc. Weight wise, the chassis is 7kg, the carrycot/pram is 4.8kg, the car seat is 4.4kg, and the pushchair seat is 2.5kg.

The best feature by far though is the fantastic wind and cold protection in the form of the included plush comfort pack. We tested the Cabi during all the snowy weather at the beginning of 2010, the coldest winter for 30 years, and Freya remained snug and cosy in spite of sub-zero temperatures and wind blown snow on the school run! This was mainly due to the pram cover, which wraps itself round inside the pram hood forming a tall upstanding buffer against the elements.

The Cabi is a new design and as yet there don’t seem to be many around. I live in a very family-orientated town and only saw one other when out and about. I really enjoyed its unique and striking looks.

Getting everything you’re going to need right there at the beginning, and knowing it works well together, is a bonus. It means there’s no need to buy any extras, which cost wise can really add up.

What to watch out for

The Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi is relatively easy to push one-handed (apart from in heavy snow!) but I did find it difficult to tip back so as to climb kerbs. This could be because the handle (which is not adjustable) is a little high for me - I am only 5’3.

Another niggle is that I tended to end up kicking the brake whilst walking quickly because it’s fixed to the low bar between the rear wheels. Again, this is something that taller people might not find a problem.

Whilst the Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi has a nice large shopping basket I do tend to run out of space and resort to hanging bags off my buggy when shopping. This is difficult to do with the handle design - the clips that you’d use to hang bags from don’t fit over the large oval shaped frame. I ended up tying the shopping bags on, which is fine but means you have to cut them off when you get home!

MadeForMums verdict

The Cosatto Cabi 3 in 1 Combi is a stylish travel system that’s been well designed for looks and your baby’s comfort. It keeps your baby cosy in difficult weather, is suitable from birth and the 4-year guarantee is reassuring. If you’re short, you could find the lack of adjustable handle height and position of the brake a little inconvenient.
