Introduced in March 2009, Udderly Gorgeous is the new maternity range from Cowshed, known for its natural yet stylish therapeutic products that were originally created for use in the Cowshed Spa at the luxurious Babington House.

The Cowshed Udderly Gorgeous Stretch Mark Balm is a lovely pampering treat for mums-to-be who want something a little more indulgent during their pregnancy. Celebrity fans include Coleen Rooney, who has been using the entire range during her first pregnancy.

The key ingredient in the stretchmark balm and indeed the entire Udderly Gorgeous range, is sea buckthorn oil, “an emollient packed with vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids to pamper and protect the skin”.

This is accompanied by an “intensive blend of coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin E” to “deeply moisturises the skin, helping to encourage epidermal elasticity”.

What we love

The list of natural ingredients is very reassuring – sea buckthorn oil, coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin E. These are all known for their moisturising and elasticity properties. Cowshed Udderly Gorgeous Stretch Mark Balm also contains no parabens, petrochemicals, sulphates, artificial colours, allergens or animal products, meaning you can rub this into your bump with confidence.

This thick and luxurious balm has a slight grainy feel about it, which gives it an almost exfoliating feel as you apply. You only need a small amount, as it spreads well across the skin.

It leaves your skin feeling moisturised and protected all day, as well as easing itchiness that often accompanies pregnancy.

I’m 31 weeks pregnant and have been using this for a couple of months now during my pregnancy and don’t have any stretchmarks as yet – although who’s to know if this is down to the balm or genetics?

What to watch out for

It takes a while to sink into skin compared to other brands I have used, so you need to leave a few minutes before applying this and getting dressed.

Given that Cowshed is a range that is used in swanky spas, the scent isn’t as luxurious as you might have hoped. It’s quite gentle and inoffensive, which is great for mums-to-be who are feeling nauseous. However, considering all the natural ingredients the aroma is more bland than enticing.

Who is Cowshed Udderly Gorgeous Stretch Mark Balm best for?

Mums-to-be who want to keep itchiness and stretchmarks at bay through indulgence.

MadeForMums verdict

Although expensive compared to other brands, this thick and luxurious treat is made from entirely natural ingredients and will keep your skin feeling nourished all day. While thewre’s no guarantee Cowshed Udderly Gorgeous Stretch Mark Balm will keep stretchmarks rom appear, at least you’ll feel pampered while trying.
