In a nutshell

This nursing bra has pretty straps, but isn't great for supporting larger bust sizes

Pros

  • A basic budget option for cash-conscious new mums - for £25 you get two bras

Cons

  • Not supportive enough for bigger breasts

Dr Miriam Stoppard has worked with Debenhams on a range of nursing lingerie, and the Nurture Nursing Bra is part of the range on offer.

Pregnancy and childbirth are full of indignities. Just when you think the worst is over, you have to cram your newly enlarged breasts into nursing bras, which are not known for their good looks.

Noted women's health expert and author Dr Miriam Stoppard has come to the rescue by working with Debenhams on a range of nursing lingerie, drawing on her knowledge of how breasts change and grow during pregnancy and nursing.

The Nurture range includes non-wired drop-cup nursing bras - in lace and pretty cotton to help you feel your best - from sizes 34B-40G. Matching briefs are also available.

What we love

If you thought baby kit was expensive, wait until you start buying nursing bras. These bras have the advantage of being competitively priced - two for £25 is pretty good - and the endorsement of Dr Miriam Stoppard is another bonus.

They're cotton-rich and the drop-cup style offers a bit of modesty, which is important when you're not used to getting your boobs out in public.

Nursing bras can be ugly but the straps on this are pretty and the lace detailing prevents you from feeling like you're wearing an industrial harness.

What to watch out for

Getting the fit right is essential and I wasn't convinced that the two young women who served me in Debenhams really knew what they were doing. Make sure you get an experienced bra fitter to check you out before you buy.

Even though this bra comes in a range of larger fittings, I didn't find it supportive enough for my F-cup breasts. Nursing pads seemed to get scrunched up in the cup, possibly due to the poor fit.

Also, the fabric is quite thick and takes a while to dry - not helpful considering you need to wash them so often. Speaking from experience, new mums have enough to cope with without having to speed-dry their wet bras with a hairdryer.

Who is the Dr Miriam Stoppard Nurture Nursing Bra best for?

New mums on tight budgets who aren't over-burdened in the breast department.

MadeForMums verdict

The Dr Miriam Stoppard Nurture Nursing Bra might look like a good deal, but women who are bigger in the bust should look at paying a bit more to get the support they need
