The footplates are highlighted with footprints, to help keep your offspring entertained while using the potty.
It comes in a choice of soft pearlised colours, whether pastel lilac, blue or white. If you like the smooth styling, you can also buy other matching items for bathtime and toilet training, including a baby bath, top and tail bowl, cushioned toilet seat and step stool.
What we love
The footplates really do make the East Coast Nursery Alpha Egg potty more stable, so that even when my 21-month-old daughter Isabel tried climbing on it sideways or facing the back it didn’t skid around on the floor.
The sleek design also meant that whichever direction Isabel chose, she always seemed perfectly comfortable sitting on it. When she managed to face the front, the high lip helped stop splashing.
As a bonus, mums online report that this potty has big enough curves to cope with a wide range of ages, from babies under 1 year to robust 3-year-olds.
The soothing colours make a change from the virulent pink or riot of cartoon characters featured on other potties, and at £8.99 this potty may not be the cheapest on the market but it won’t break the bank.
The East Coast Nursery Alpha Egg potty was always easy to sponge clean, using warm water and mild soap rather than abrasive cleaners or bleach (whatever the temptation).
What to watch out for
The footplates may help keep the potty in place, but they weren’t in the right position for Isabel’s feet, which stuck out further forward. Perhaps an older child with longer legs would actually put their toes on the comedy feet symbols. They also make the base of the potty wider than it would otherwise be, so you might want to avoid this design if space is really limited.
Alpha Egg deliberately lowered the handhold at the back, to ensure the potty is more stable when being emptied. However, I found I had to be much more careful not to let the potty tip forwards when using the low handhold on this potty, as opposed to our other potty with a handle at the top of the backrest. Half the time I ended up grabbing it by the backrest anyway, which never seemed the most secure when dealing with a full potty.
Who is the East Coast Nursery Alpha Egg potty best for?
Fans of contemporary styling, looking for a comfortable, stable potty.
The East Coast Nursery Alpha Egg potty with footplates offers a stylish but sensibly designed solution for the trials of potty training. Even if the footplates aren’t quite in the right place for younger children, this potty has curves that should accommodate a variety of ages and sizes.
