Easy to build with a traditional design, the East Coast Nursery Anna Cot may not be quite as snazzy or sturdy as some cots but it’s practical and affordable and will suit any nursery.
East Coast Nursery is a family business that has been established for over 40 years and supplies a wide range of award-winning nursery furniture and products. The company is based in the Norfolk market town of North Walsham and emphasises the importance of a ‘caring approach’. The East Coast Anna Cot is simple and extremely light in weight - which has both its pros and cons. It takes a mattress size of 120x60cm and is recommended for those on a tighter budget. Its major benefits include two protective teething rails and a single-handed drop-side.
What we love
Mums will find the Anna cot very simple to build and it is extremely lightweight making moving it around the nursery a cinch. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and the cot comes with an allen key provided so, once out of the packaging, you will have it together in a very short space of time. Its classic style will complement any nursery and with rails on all four sides, you can easily keep a watchful eye on your baby from every angle. The simplicity of the cot’s design will also make it very easy to find furniture that will match to create an even more snazzy nursery.
The protective teething rails are a thoughtful addition that will keep the cot looking as good as new, ideal if you plan to use it again in the future. With three mattress heights, there are plenty of options as your baby grows and the one-handed drop-side mechanism will save your back even when the mattress is in its lowest position.
The base takes a standard mattress size of 120x60cm which are available from East Coast Nursery. The range includes wipe clean foam mattresses, which provide your baby with excellent support and are resistant to permanent denting. The ultra fibre mattress also offers a good level of support, is again wipe clean and has a removable, hand washable outer cover. Their top-of-the-range mattress is the deluxe sprung coil mattress which also has a removable outer cover suitable for hand washing and, with a sprung middle and foam surround, provides excellent support and comfort for your baby.
The Anna Cot has also passed British safety standards BSEN 716 so you can rest assured that your tot is in safe hands. Prices for mattresses start at £22.99 for the most basic, which isn’t bad for those looking to tighten the purse strings!
What to watch out for
The Anna Cot is very light so when operating the drop-side mechanism, the whole cot sometime moves and even lifts off the floor, particularly when pulling the rail up. The drop-side doesn’t have the smoothest of mechanisms and, despite the promise, it usually needs two hands to operate which could become awkward with a baby to contend with! Mums online have also been saying that they struggled with the drop-side.
The simple design is not the most innovative and unfortunately East Coast Nursery don’t offer a range of coordinating nursery furniture. The base takes a standard mattress size of 120x60cm but this isn’t included in the price and East Coast Nursery only stock a small choice of three mattresses. Not the most sturdy of cots and if you want it assembled for you on delivery it will cost extra.
Who is the East Coast Nursery Anna Cot best for?
Because it goes together so easily, it's ideal to store at grandparents' houses if you're looking for something more solid and permanent than a travel cot.
MadeForMums verdict
A basic cot, this does have all the necessary features including a drop side and mattress height options for a reasonable price. Its simple design would suit any nursery but be aware that its simplicity does mean it lacks slightly in functionality.
