As rockers go, the East Coast Nursery Rest and Play Rocker is a good-looking number. Its muted tones would complement any modern nursery. The oval shaped legs give a study base and it can be used in rocking mode or static on the floor. There are three tunes and two vibration speeds.
Suitable for babies up to 6 months of age, or 9kg in weight, the rocker has an adjustable backrest and waist strap and the pillow can be removed for washing.
What we love
East Coast Nursery has produced a lovely looking baby rocker that avoids garish colours and naff toys.
The vibration system is easy to use and there’s a significant difference between the two speeds. And with three tunes to choose from you might not get bored of the music overnight.
Because the East Coast Nursery Rest and Play Rocker is so sturdy it will easily accommodate bigger babies and would certainly last for the full 6 months suggested.
The back recline is easy to use and makes the rocker a good place for an extended sleep.
What to watch out for
The East Coast Nursery Rest and Play Rocker is a rocking chair and nothing else. And whilst the simple design will appeal to many on-trend parents, the lack of toys and accessories may reduce its appeal for a baby.
What’s more, the rocker doesn’t seem that comfy. Rather than envelope my new baby Poppy, it seemed like she was perched on top of a flat seat rather than cocooned by the chair.
If you’re limited on space, you might think twice about buying this rocker – it’s a large bit of kit, measuring 79cm long and 47cm wide. In our tiny lounge I kicked it several times, waking 2-week-old Poppy from her precious sleep.
Putting the East Coast Nursery Rest and Play Rocker together should have been simple but fixing the supporting bar that joins the legs onto the frame needed a hammer and some brute force – definitely a dad job.
