Pros

  • A very easy set-up, excellent value

Cons

  • Parent unit isn't the most stylish and it's size and large aerial mean it isn't very portable. Doesn't offer the greatest of sound quality

An incredibly simple set-up, the Fisher-Price Sounds ‘n’ Lights Monitor offers all the basic functions for a very reasonable price.

As one of the top 10 recognised brands in the world, Fisher-Price aims to give families the best possible start in life. The analogue Fisher-Price Sounds ‘n’ Lights Monitor is Fisher Price’s only monitor.

The baby unit is mains operated and the parent unit can be powered via batteries or mains.

Mums online have different opinions, some say the sounds quality is poor but for the most part they rate this as cheap and cheerful.

What we love

This is unbelievably simple to set up - with clear, comprehensive instructions and only two channels, it’s a cinch to get working and the problem solving tips provide the answers to any reception or interference problems.

The functions are limited but the sound-sensitive lights on the parent unit mean you can see as well as hear your baby’s cries. The night light emits a pleasant glow that can be turned off independently of the monitor. The volume can also be controlled on the parent unit and it offers a low battery indicator.

I love the funky styling of the baby unit – it’s stylish and spacey.

What to watch out for

Although you can hear your baby cry, the sound quality is rather fuzzy and this monitor does lack functions, such as a temperature display.

The parent unit looks a little plasticky and the very long aerial makes it very awkward to carry round despite the belt clip.

Who is the Fisher-Price Sounds ‘n’ Lights Monitor best for?

Mums after good value and the most basic of baby monitoring.

MadeForMums verdict

It doesn’t offer the greatest clarity of sound or a huge range of functions but for such a competitive price, the Fisher-Price Sounds ‘n’ Lights Monitor is a reasonable monitor. While a little awkward when it comes to wearing around on your belt, it is simple and easy to set up.
