FittaMamma specialises in supporting mums-to-be and new mums with maternity workout gear.

As well as stocking a wide range of specially designed motherhood exersize wear, the website is packed with hints and tips on how to exercise during pregnancy and why.

The FittaMamma website also has a blog, a forum and lots of recipes and work out suggestions – quickly securing itself as my new ‘go-to’ pregnancy fitness site.

It seems to have hit a real niche in the market and as such, has become one of the most trusted maternity wear brands in the UK and beyond.

With this being my first pregnancy and having never needed work out maternity gear before I wanted to know what I was getting for my money and find out how these clothes differed from standard gym wear and other active wear marketed as maternity.

As well as seeing me through pregnancy, I wanted to see if my new FittaMamma wear will see me through to post-partum glory at the other side.

What’s in the box?

My FittaMamma high support top (£44.99) and FittaSupport Maternity Leggings (£49.99) arrived beautifully gift wrapped, making them feel like a real indulgence.

What extra accessories can you buy?

The best ‘accessories’ to go with FittaMamma products are the wealth of fitness advice and guidance found on the website. Pregnant women need go no further for all their workout needs.

How supportive is the FittaMamma kit when working out?

Very! I tested the clothes during a variety of workouts – a CV session in the gym, a Body Pump weights class and pregnancy yoga – during each workout I felt comfortable and ‘held in’ well.

The high support top is incredibly supportive with a built in sports bra, panels across the top and bottom of my bump a tight band that sits on the hips to stop it riding up.

The leggings provide over-the-bump support for an added feeling of security and has been designed to support mothers who've undergone c-sections.

So are the clothes comfortable?

Yes, both the top and the leggings feel incredibly comfortable. For the first time in weeks I can focus on my workout without being distracted by my top riding up or getting in the way, or my leggings cutting in to me.

Will they grow with you?

The leggings will definitely grow with me. But such is the nature of the beast with the top that I fear I may need to invest in a bigger size as my pregnancy progresses.

The top has to be tight in order to give the support I’m after, however at just over five months pregnant I am already finding the small size a struggle to get in to.

Once I’ve wrestled with the built in bra and tight band at the bottom to get by bulging bosom and blossoming baby bump in place, the top feels great. But I’m sure I’ve provoked more than a few smirks in the changing rooms as I do battle.

Is the kit durable enough to last your entire pregnancy?

I think so, both the top and leggings are made from soft, stretchy cotton and are designed to grow with you.

They certainly feel like they are made of top quality fabric and I haven’t found so much as a loose thread or a bit of bobbling and I’ve been wearing them for weeks now.

How do they look?

I caught myself in the mirror at the gym walking in such a way that can only be described as a ‘strut’. For the first time working out while pregnant, I feel that I look stylish in the gym and that my blossoming bump is flattered by my work out clothes.

FittaMamma’s simple but sassy branding is eye-catching and instantly recognisable without being tacky or garish.

The design of the clothes matches that perception, with simple but functional and stylish tops and leggings.

The tops are available in a range of bright colours to really make you stand out, as well as black, white or grey if you want to blend in more.

How do they compare to other workout clothes you’ve worn?

I knew things had to change when I started wearing my husband’s t-shirts to the gym.

Wearing looser tops or going up a size in standard gym clothes was becoming untenable.

My usual leggings were cutting in to my bump and looser cotton bottoms usually reserved for my Sunday couch sessions just felt too hot and unflattering.

FittaMamma was the first brand of dedicated maternity gym wear I tried, but I won’t be looking elsewhere.

Are the top and legging easy to clean?

Super easy. I chuck mine in a quick wash on 40° and then over the clothes horse after my work out.

Do you think the kit is value for money?

I was hesitant at first, because I’ve never worn a top and leggings valued at almost £100 in total before. However, after several sessions in the gym, at a weights based class and at pregnancy yoga I am convinced FittaMamma products are worth every penny. They’re not too bad for lazing around on a Sunday afternoon either!

So would you recommend them to other expectant mothers?

I will be recommending FittaMamma to all of my pregnant friends – past, present and future – and look forward to indulging in a few more ensembles myself.
