Graco Assure car seat tested in: BMW – 1 Series SE, 5 door.
This car seat provides all the comfort, support and safety features you would expect from a big brand, like Graco, but without being too bulky or heavy. Other seats that I’ve tried in this group do tend to have a very solid and cumbersome design, but this seat is more compact without compromising the safety features. It’s very easy to assemble (the elements all click into place) and install, with easy-to-follow instructions and diagrams.
The seat is suitable from 4-12 years, with a five-position headrest. The backrest can be removed to be used as a booster seat when your child is ready, so it really is designed to grow with your child. The seat has SIP (Side Impact Protection) for the head, lower back and hips, and the head rest is designed to provide head and neck protection in the event of a collision.
For comfort-factor, this seat really ticks all the boxes: the backrest reclines (if your child likes to snooze in the car), there’s padded armrests, and the seat itself is made from luxury foam. There’s also a seatbelt guide that holds the seat belt in place to ensure that your child is secure and comfortable.
You can buy Graco Assure from Halfords, George at Asda and Amazon
The Graco Assure seat cover can be removed and washed and all the other elements can be wiped with a damp cloth, so it’s easy to look after, too.
How heavy is the Graco Assure?
This seat is much lighter than other seats in this group, which makes it portable and a good option if you need to use it in other cars, or for child carers. Even though my son is able to use a booster seat on its own, from a safety perspective, I prefer to keep him in a seat which has SIP for as long as possible, so the Graco Assure is a great option for us.
What did your child like best?
My son particularly liked the built-in retractable cup holders on each side of the seat, which he uses to transport a drink and a toy!
What to watch out for
In my car, I found that the car seat covered the seatbelt plug a little, so it was awkward to find and secure. However, once it was plugged in, the lap and shoulder belt were secure and comfortable.
Who is this car seat best for?
This seat is ideal if you want a portable and lightweight car seat option that doesn’t compromise on the safety and comfort features.
MadeForMum verdict
This seat provides comfort, security and is packed with safety features, without being too heavy or overly bulky. My only complaint is that the base is a little wide, which means that it can be awkward to find the seat belt plug.
A great design from a big brand, with lots of comfort and safety benefits, with the added bonus of retractable cup holders. At £89.99, the Graco Assure provides good value for money (I have found that seats of this standard are usually over £100).
