Sleep safety is a big concern for any parent and as a mum to a super-wriggly baby, I was quick to invest in a Grobag (or three!) and it soon became one my favourite pieces of baby kit. No matter how much my son wriggled at night, I knew that he was safe and cosy, which meant a good night’s sleep all round!
After much success with a Grobag, I was keen to try out the Gro Company's Grobag Stay On Duvet Bedding Set when my son moved to a big bed.
What we love
I just love the idea that a mum from the Gro Company office came up with the idea for this bedding set. It’s also been awarded a ‘Star Buy’ in the What To Buy For Your Baby book.
The Grobag Stay On Duvet Bedding Set comes with a fitted sheet and a duvet cover, which zip together to make sure you’re child won’t fall out of bed and the covers stay put. Think sleeping bag, but with an opening at the bottom so your child won’t feel trapped. The fitted sheet also has a built in pillow case, which is sewn onto the sheet, so there’s no need to worry that your child will end up under the pillow.
The bedding comes in four simple designs: pink stripe, blue stripe, little chick and cheeky monkey, with more designs to come in Autumn/Winter 2010. It’s available in a cot bed size (£44.99) and single bed size (£49.99). You can buy a regular child duvet (the actual bit that goes inside the duvet cover), but it’s worth investing in the Grobag First Duvet, which includes popper buttons that attach inside duvet cover itself, keeping everything in place. It is £19.99 for a cot bed or £34.99 for a single bed size. You can also buy a spare fitted sheet - £17.50 for the cot bed size and £19.99 for the single bed.
My son instantly loved the Grobag Stay On Duvet Bedding Set and the fact that he’s zipped in helps him to feel really secure.
What to watch out for
By the time you’ve bought the bedding set, duvet and pillow, the costs mount up, but on the upside, you won’t have to buy a bed guard.
The cot bed duvet is only available as a 4 tog (the single duvet is made up of two four tog duvets), so it’s not ideal for the summer months as your child will probably get too hot, as mine did!
While it’s really easy to keep clean, the fitted sheet can be tricky to iron because it’s got the zips and built-in pillowcase. That said, there are plenty of us who won’t be at all affected by this!
It would be great to have more choice of designs, too.
Who is the Gro Company Grobag Stay On Duvet Bedding Set best for?
Parents after a simple but clever alternative to a bed guard.
A brilliant idea and the perfect transition from a baby or toddler sleeping, the Grobag Stay On Duvet Bedding Set will keep your child comfy and secure. You won’t need to invest in a bed guard and it looks much nicer too. However, the cost of the whole kit does mount up, especially as you’ll probably want a spare set of bedding for when it’s in the wash or for those inevitable night-time accidents.
