What can I put on a Make Your Own Yoto card?

Yoto's Make Your Own cards are very versatile and there is a huge range of content you can link to each card.

Generally, the most popular option is that you can upload your own recordings, whether that's leaving a nice message, reading your favourite story, or creating a medley of your favourite sounds and songs. You can also upload an MP3 file of your favourite music from your phone or computer.

Plus, you can upload any radio station or podcast from the Yoto app, or link to external ones by finding the radio stations' URL or podcasts' RSS Link.

Last but not least, you can use the Make Your Own cards to replace lost Yoto cards, and every one of them can be wiped and updated with new tracks.

How much can I put on a Make Your Own Yoto card?

Make Your Own Yoto cards have a limit of 100 tracks per card or 500 MB/5 hours of content.

Each track has a limit of 100MB or 1 hour.

How to make your own Yoto cards step-by-step

Below we've broken the steps down by the different types of content you can upload. For each guide, you'll need to start things off with a Yoto Player, a Make Your Own Yoto card and the Yoto app.

How to make a card from your own recordings

  1. Open the Yoto app and select 'My Library.' Then select the 'Make Your Own' section.
  2. Tap the 'My Recordings' button at the top of the screen.
  3. Click the red mic button to start recording, then record any sound, story or song you wish.
  4. When you're done, press the 'Finish' button, give your recording a name and then press 'Save.'
  5. Your recording should then appear in the 'My Recordings' section, and there should be a big orange button that says 'Add to a playlist' – press this.
  6. You'll then have the option to make a 'New playlist'. Give it a name, description and cover image, then once your recording us uploaded to it, press 'Create playlist.' Your playlist should now appear in the 'Make Your Own' section.
  7. Next, open the playlist and select 'Link to a MYO card.'
  8. You'll then either have the option to link to the card via your phone or your player. To do it via phone, simply hold the card to the top of your phone and wait until the linking is complete.
  9. To link via the player, put the card in your Yoto Player (making sure it's switched on and connected to Wi-Fi) then select your player on the app. Your Yoto Player will display a red recording circle followed by a green tick when the linking is complete.

How to make a card from radio stations and podcasts in the Yoto app

  1. Open the Yoto app and select 'My Library.' Then either select 'Radio' or 'Podcasts.'
  2. Find the radio or podcast you want, open it, and select the three-dot icon in the top right corner.
  3. Click 'Link to a card' and insert a Make Your Own card into your Yoto Player.
  4. A button saying 'Link' should pop up. Click that and your Yoto Player will display a red recording circle followed by a green tick when the linking is complete.

How to make a card from radio stations that aren't in the Yoto app

  1. Visit yotoplay.com/create and log in using the same username and password you use on the Yoto app.
  2. Go to 'Playlist' and click 'Add Playlist,' then give your playlist a name.
  3. Select 'Add Stream.'
  4. In the text box, paste the URL of the radio station you wish to upload and click 'Save.'
  5. Go back to the Yoto app and your playlist should appear in 'My Library.'
  6. Open the playlist, select the three dots icon on the top right corner and click 'Link to a card.'
  7. Insert a Make Your Own card into your Yoto Player.
  8. A button saying 'Link' should pop up. Click that and your Yoto Player will display a red recording circle followed by a green tick when the linking is complete.

How to make a card from podcasts that aren't in the Yoto app

  1. Visit yotoplay.com/create and log in using the same username and password you use on the Yoto app.
  2. Go to 'Podcast' and click 'Add Podcast.'
  3. On the left, you'll see an option to add an icon to your podcast. On the right, you'll see a text box where you'll need to paste the podcast's RSS link. Then, tap 'Grab podcast details.'
  4. To get a podcast's RSS link, just search the podcast name and 'RSS feed' in a search engine.
  5. Once the podcast appears, tap 'Save.'
  6. Go back to the Yoto app and your playlist should appear in 'My Library.'
  7. Open the playlist, select the three dots icon on the top right corner and click 'Link to a card.'
  8. Insert a Make Your Own card into your Yoto Player.
  9. A button saying 'Link' should pop up. Click that and your Yoto Player will display a red recording circle followed by a green tick when the linking is complete.

How to make a card from an MP3 playlist

  1. Open the Yoto app, head to the 'My Playlists' page and select the 'Make new' button.
  2. Follow the pop-up instructions on your phone to upload your audio recording, then select 'Save.'
