The Huggies DryNites Bed Mats are a disposable, thin cotton-feel sheet approximately 145cm x 80cm, which fit across the width of your little one’s mattress under the bed sheet, with flaps at either side tucking around the mattress to hold it in place. They’re a bit like the maternity sheets you get on your bed in hospital after you have given birth. They have a highly absorbent central panel that captures any leaks and are designed to be extremely discrete.
The Huggies DryNites Bed Mats can be used from 12 months, and they’re not recommended for younger tots in case they accidentally get pulled away from the mattress. At ASDA they’re priced at £4.25 for a pack of 7.
What we love
These Huggies DryNites Bed Mats are extremely discrete. They can’t be seen under the bed sheet, which is useful for an older child who might be embarrassed about bed wetting or wants security at sleepovers.
They provide a good area of coverage across the mattress, so you can be confident that larger spills as well as smaller leaks will be caught.
Huggies DryNites Bed Mats have made dealing with occasional night-time accidents much easier – it’s quick to just whip off the top sheet and put a new Huggies DryNites Bed Mat and clean bed sheet on. They do also teach your little one what wet feels like, so it helps them to learn better control at night.
We found them especially helpful when Lucy initially dropped her night-time nappy. I’ve also made use of these to protect the car seat when toilet training Peter and as a portable changing mat that can be easily folded up into a small bag.
From a price-comparison perspective, they’re a little cheaper than the Pampers version (which are also smaller in size).
What to watch out for
Since Huggies DryNites Bed Mats are quite expensive (about 60p each), they’re more suited to a child who doesn’t wet the bed too frequently, or else you will be using lots of them. A traditional waterproof mattress cover that you wash would be cheaper in the long term.
When using the Huggies DryNites Bed Mats you’ll still need to change the bed sheets at night if your little one typically wakes up when they are wet – so these aren’t necessarily going to help you get a full night’s sleep. The Huggies DryNites range of pyjama pants might be better if getting better sleep is more important.
